If your iPhone has lost cellular service, first check whether the affected eSIM line is still listed in Settings. If it is, make sure it is turned on and try Apple’s basic recovery steps. If the line is missing or service still does not return, connect to Wi-Fi and ask your carrier to re-provision the eSIM or issue a replacement activation.
Check whether the eSIM line is still on your iPhone

Open Settings > Cellular. Depending on your region or software version, this menu may be called Mobile Service or Mobile Data.

Look for the affected number or cellular plan. If it is listed but turned off, select it and turn on Turn On This Line.

If the line is not listed, or it is listed but cannot connect, move on to the recovery checks. Apple advises contacting your carrier if the cellular line is absent.

If the eSIM line appears in Settings, turn the line off and then back on.

Restart the iPhone.

Check for a carrier settings update: open Settings > General > About and follow any update prompt that appears.

Install the latest iOS version available for your iPhone.
If these checks do not restore service, connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi or a hotspot before trying to activate an eSIM or contacting your carrier. Wi-Fi or a hotspot is needed for eSIM setup in most cases; some eSIM-only iPhone models have regional exceptions.

Ask your carrier to reactivate or replace the eSIM
An eSIM is a digital SIM profile, but the carrier controls whether the mobile plan is active and how it is provisioned. Contact the carrier if the line is missing or service remains unavailable. Ask whether they can re-provision the existing eSIM or whether you need a replacement activation.
The carrier’s process can vary by plan and region, including identity checks and whether an existing QR code can be reused. Do not assume an old QR code will work again. Apple’s guidance is direct: “If you still can’t set up an eSIM on your iPhone, contact your network provider.”

Choose an activation method the carrier supports
Apple documents several ways to add or transfer an eSIM. Which one is available depends on your carrier and what activation details it provides.

Confirm service and decide what to report
Once the eSIM activates, check that the iPhone shows cellular service and place a call. If service still fails, tell the carrier the exact status message and ask it to check your account eligibility, eSIM provisioning, coverage, and any network outage. If the carrier finds no account or network issue and suspects an iPhone hardware problem, Apple directs users toward device service.
Apple’s related guidance: If you can’t set up an eSIM on your iPhone and If you see SOS, No Service, or Searching on your iPhone or iPad.
