Samsung says the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra support eSIM as well as a physical SIM. You can store multiple eSIM profiles, but only one eSIM can be active at a time. Whether you can activate one depends on your phone’s regional variant, carrier, plan, and software.
Which Galaxy S23 models support eSIM?
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra as eSIM-capable. That does not guarantee eSIM support on every handset sold under those names: Samsung warns that capability can vary by the phone’s country of origin and where it is being used. Imported or carrier-customized models may differ. Check the exact model with the carrier before relying on eSIM. Samsung’s S23-series eSIM guidance and its regional compatibility page explain these qualifications.
How many SIMs and eSIM profiles can you use?
Using a physical SIM and an eSIM
Samsung describes the hybrid setup as one physical SIM and one eSIM in use at the same time. Samsung US lists hybrid eSIM dual-SIM features for the S23 series. Some models or markets may offer two physical SIMs instead, so do not assume that every S23 has the same SIM-tray arrangement. Samsung US SIM guidance covers supported configurations and activation methods.
Stored profiles versus active lines
A stored profile is a downloaded eSIM that can be selected later; it is not necessarily an active line. Samsung says the S23 series can store multiple eSIM profiles, but only one eSIM can be active at a time. Samsung does not state a universal S23 profile maximum. Its general Galaxy guidance says the number that can be added varies by model and carrier and may depend on eSIM memory and carrier restrictions. Samsung’s general Galaxy eSIM guidance provides those qualifications.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
SIM Manager lets you choose a primary SIM for calls, messages, and mobile data where those controls are available; the options can depend on the provider. Consult the S23-series user manual for SIM Manager details.
Will eSIM work with your carrier and plan?
The phone’s capability alone is not enough. Samsung says eSIM availability depends on the country and carrier, and the carrier must support eSIM services. A carrier’s listed activation method is not a guarantee that every plan, account, or S23 variant qualifies. Before switching or buying a plan, ask the carrier to check the exact device model or IMEI, your plan, and whether the handset must be unlocked or otherwise approved.

For the United States, Samsung lists providers that may support particular eSIM setup methods, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Boost Mobile, Cricket, and Mint Mobile. Samsung separately lists carriers that may support instant transfer. These are method-specific possibilities, not blanket eligibility guarantees. See Samsung US’s carrier and activation guidance.
How to add an eSIM to a Galaxy S23
- Connect to Wi-Fi or another available network if the carrier’s activation process needs internet access to download the profile.
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap Add eSIM. Follow the option offered for your carrier, such as scanning its QR code or searching for a carrier plan. Your carrier may require a different supported method.
- Follow the on-screen prompts. Restart the phone if it asks you to.
- In SIM Manager, enable the intended SIM and choose the primary SIM for calls, messages, or data if those controls are available.
Menu wording and available options vary by software version, device model, and service provider. Samsung describes QR-code setup, carrier discovery, carrier push notifications, and transfer from another device as possible activation routes; the carrier determines which one is available. If the route you expect is missing, ask the carrier for its supported procedure. Samsung’s setup instructions and the S23-series manual cover the relevant menus.

What to check if eSIM activation fails
- Model and region: Confirm that the specific S23 variant supports eSIM in the country where it was sold and where you plan to use it.
- Carrier and plan: Ask whether the exact device and plan are eligible. Some plans or carriers may not support eSIM.
- Device approval: Check whether the phone must be unlocked or approved by the carrier for eSIM use.
- Connection and software: Use a reliable network during activation and install current device software.
- QR code: If the carrier issued a QR code, confirm that it is readable and intended for the correct device and line.
- Missing menu or transfer option: Availability depends on the carrier, software, and device. Ask the carrier which activation method it supports for your phone.
Samsung identifies these as relevant checks, but an individual activation failure may need diagnosis by the carrier or device provider. Its S23 eSIM support article and SIM setup guidance describe common eligibility and setup issues.
