If you want another young-hero adventure with a close-knit group and a richly imagined world, start with the original animated Avatar: The Last Airbender. Choose The Dragon Prince for a family-oriented magical quest, His Dark Materials for a more serious, philosophical journey, or Ms. Marvel if Percy’s teen-hero humor mattered more to you than mythology.
Which series should you watch after Percy Jackson?
There is no single best follow-up for every viewer: the right choice depends on what you enjoyed. The Disney+ listing classifies Percy Jackson and the Olympians as TV-PG and as action/adventure and fantasy, but that is context—not a universal age recommendation or a direct rating comparison with the shows below. Check each series’ local listing and content information for your household.
| What you want next | Best fit | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| A young hero, companions, travel, and a big fantasy world | Avatar: The Last Airbender (original animated series) | It balances humor, elemental abilities, and a journey shaped by a larger conflict. |
| An animated magical quest with a family-oriented feel | The Dragon Prince | Young characters, unlikely allies, magic, and conflict among kingdoms drive the adventure. |
| A denser, more thoughtful fantasy story | His Dark Materials | Its alternate-world adventure explores serious questions alongside fantastical action. |
| A relatable modern teen hero and humor | Ms. Marvel | Kamala balances school and family with a secret superhero identity; it is a superhero story, not a mythic fantasy quest. |

Best overall match: Avatar: The Last Airbender
For the closest all-around match, watch the original animated series. It follows Aang and his companions through a world where people can “bend” earth, air, fire, or water, as they try to restore balance after conflict. The travel-and-ensemble setup suits viewers who liked a young protagonist facing a large challenge with friends, while the tone moves between comedy and more serious themes.
#1 Best Overall
This recommendation refers to the animated series, not Netflix’s live-action adaptation. Netflix lists Avatar: The Last Airbender among its fantasy offerings, but the listing does not establish availability in every country: Netflix fantasy category.
For an animated family-oriented quest: The Dragon Prince
The Dragon Prince is a good next pick if you want an invented fantasy world, magical creatures, and young characters caught up in a larger conflict. TV Guide describes its story as centering on two human princes and a young elf assassin amid tensions between human and elven kingdoms. Netflix categorizes it as family and kids fantasy and uses descriptors such as magic, myths and legends, and unlikely friends.

“Family” is a platform category, not a guarantee that every episode will suit every household; check the local listing and episodes if content suitability matters. Netflix’s title page describes a quest involving young characters, a magical cube, and conflict among kingdoms: The Dragon Prince on Netflix.
If you want more of the setting after the show, The Dragon Prince: Dreamer’s Nightmare is a graphic novel set before the television series and featuring Callum and Ezran. It is optional companion reading, not a required next season: publisher listing.
For a more serious fantasy journey: His Dark Materials
The three-season adaptation of Philip Pullman’s books follows Lyra in an alternate world. Its fantastical action sits alongside questions about religion, morality, and authoritarianism, making it a stronger choice for viewers ready for a more complex and serious story than the lighter adventure options here. It is not the closest tonal duplicate of Percy Jackson.
TV Guide’s recommendation associates the series with HBO/Max, but streaming rights change and vary by country. Check the service listings in your region before choosing where to watch.

For Percy’s teen-hero humor: Ms. Marvel
Ms. Marvel is the adjacent pick if the part you most liked was watching a relatable teenager juggle an ordinary life with extraordinary problems. The Disney+ series follows Pakistani-American teen Kamala Khan as she gains superpowers while balancing school, family, and a secret superhero identity. Its humor and teen-hero perspective overlap with Percy Jackson, but it is a contemporary superhero story rather than a conventional mythological fantasy quest.

Platform catalogs, ratings displays, and rights can differ by territory and change over time. Netflix’s fantasy category includes Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Dragon Prince, but a category page does not confirm that either is playable in every region. Confirm the title in your local service catalog and review its rating and content description before watching.
