Start by checking your account to see which company bills your subscription. Cancel through Netflix, HBO Max, or Disney+ only when that service is the billing provider; if Apple, Google Play, or a TV, mobile, internet, or other partner bills you, cancel through that provider instead. Deleting an app or signing out does not stop recurring charges. After cancelling, save the confirmation and note the date access ends.
First, find who bills your subscription
Open the service’s account or subscription page and look for billing details. If the service does not show a cancellation option, check the payment or membership section for the provider’s name. A bank statement or a bill from your internet, mobile, or TV provider may also help identify who controls the subscription.
The billing company determines where you must cancel. Follow that company’s cancellation flow, then confirm the subscription is no longer active or has a scheduled end date. Signing out, removing an app from a device, or deleting it does not cancel a subscription.
How to cancel or pause Netflix
Cancel Netflix
- Sign in and open Manage your membership.
- Select Cancel, then choose Finish Cancellation.
- Look for Netflix’s confirmation email and note the end date shown for your membership.
If time remains in the current billing period, Netflix says you can keep watching until it ends. If your account is on hold, cancelling closes it immediately. A remaining gift-card or promotional balance may continue to pay for service after cancellation. If you are moving to a package that includes Netflix, Netflix says you can link your existing account to that package; once linked, billing to the payment method on file stops.

Pause Netflix
Netflix describes an eligible one-month pause that begins on your next billing date. You can keep streaming until then, but you are not charged on that date. Streaming and downloads stop during the pause; after the month, Netflix says it charges the current plan price and viewing resumes. Eligible accounts may be able to extend the pause one month at a time, up to three months total.

The option is not available on the Basic plan or with some payment methods, including direct debit, gift cards, and certain partner payments. Unpausing early triggers an immediate charge and changes the billing date. Plan names and eligibility can change, so check whether the pause option appears in your account.
How to cancel HBO Max
Cancel a subscription billed by HBO Max
- Sign in to the service’s subscription page.
- Choose Cancel Your Subscription and confirm.
- Note the expiration date shown; access continues until the end of the billing period.
HBO Max’s help page is country-specific, and partners and exact instructions vary by location. If there is no cancel button, use the cancellation controls for the company that bills you, such as Apple, Google Play, Samsung, or an internet, mobile, or TV provider. HBO Max’s cancellation guidance explains how to identify the billing company. It states: “Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.”

If an HBO Max charge appears after cancellation
- Check whether the subscription still appears active with its billing provider.
- Check whether you used another email address for a separate account.
- Confirm when cancellation took effect relative to the renewal date.
Some providers may require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period, but that timing is not universal. Check the rule for your specific provider. For further checks, see HBO Max’s unexpected subscription charge guidance.

- In a computer or mobile browser, open Profile → Account.
- Open your subscription and choose Cancel Subscription.
- Complete the prompts and note the date access ends.
Directly billed subscribers generally keep access until the current billing period ends. If an agreed minimum term runs longer, access can continue until that term ends. If a third party bills you, use its help center or contact it to cancel. Disney+ notes that plans and features can vary by country and billing partner; see its UK cancellation guidance and US plan-management guidance.
Pause Disney+
Disney+ UK says some monthly subscriptions billed directly by Disney+ can be paused through Account → subscription → Pause Subscription, where you choose a duration. Promotions and minimum-term subscriptions may not qualify. The pause starts on the first day of the next billing period: access continues until then, then stops while charges are paused until the pause ends. This guidance does not establish that the same option is available in every country or for third-party subscriptions.

Cancel or pause: which should you choose?
Choose cancellation if you want the subscription to end and recurring billing to stop after the applicable period or term. Consider a pause when it is offered for your account and you want service to resume under that provider’s pause rules. Before choosing, check when charges stop, when access ends, whether you qualify for a pause, and whether a minimum term, hold, gift balance, or promotion changes the timing.
Quick Recap
Verify the change and keep a record
- Confirm the subscription shows as cancelled or paused in the account of the company that bills you.
- Save the cancellation email or confirmation screen.
- Record the stated access end date and, if paused, when service and billing are due to resume.
- If a later charge looks unexpected, check for an active subscription, a separate account, or a cancellation made too close to renewal; contact the billing provider if needed.
