Continue with Dream Drop Distance HD, 0.2 Birth by Sleep, and KINGDOM HEARTS III. This is a beginner-friendly story route—not an order mandated by Square Enix.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX is a practical starting purchase if you want to begin at the beginning and see whether you want to continue. Square Enix describes it as containing the first six stories. Those six are not all full playable games: two are presented as HD cutscene compilations.

In a June 10, 2026 announcement, Square Enix set the bundle’s launch for October 8, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store on Windows. The announcement lists physical editions for Switch 2 and PlayStation and says the physical collection requires an internet connection to download additional data. A PlayStation Store listing observed before the announced launch showed an October 6 date and a US preorder price of $74.99; that storefront-specific information differs from the publisher’s date and should not be treated as a universal or stable price. Check your local store for the current listing and requirements. Square Enix’s June 2026 announcement has the publisher’s platform and launch details.
What each collection includes
| Collection | Contents | How it fits a beginner route |
|---|---|---|
| HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX | KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX; Re:Chain of Memories; KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX; 358/2 Days HD cutscene compilation; Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX; Re:coded HD cutscene compilation. | Start with FINAL MIX, then play the next three games in the recommended route. The two compilations add story context but are not full playable game entries in this collection. |
| HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue | Dream Drop Distance HD; χ Back Cover movie; 0.2 Birth by Sleep. | Play Dream Drop Distance HD and then 0.2 Birth by Sleep after Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX. The movie provides additional context. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind | KINGDOM HEARTS III and the Re Mind DLC. | Play III after the earlier story entries. Square Enix describes Re Mind as another side of the tale that unfolds during III’s climax. |
Square Enix’s June 2026 announcement identifies the games and distinguishes playable entries from movie or cutscene presentations. It describes 0.2 Birth by Sleep as a short episode linking to III.

Should you watch the cutscene compilations and movie?
For maximum story context, watch the 358/2 Days and Re:coded HD cutscene compilations included in 1.5+2.5, and watch the χ Back Cover movie included in 2.8. These are cinematic presentations rather than full playable game entries in the collections. If you only want the core playable route, follow the numbered list and the other playable titles; if you want the fuller narrative, include the films and compilations as well.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the collection names are confusing
The numbers in names such as “1.5+2.5” and “2.8” identify product collections, not a requirement to play a game called “1.5” before “1.” Begin with KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX. The collections bundle games and cinematic material from different points in the broader story, which is why following the title sequence above is clearer than trying to sort the bundle numbers themselves.

Platform and edition checks before buying
- Switch: Square Enix’s June 2026 announcement says 1.5+2.5 will be available natively on Nintendo Switch, and identifies the new all-in-one collection for Switch 2. Earlier individual Switch editions were cloud versions. Confirm the exact title and edition in the store before purchase.
- Other digital storefronts: Square Enix lists Steam and Epic Games Store options for digital products. Its Steam announcement says the series launched on Steam on June 13, 2024. See the publisher’s collection information and Steam announcement.
- Physical collection: The publisher says the Switch 2 and PlayStation physical editions require an internet connection to download additional data. Make sure that requirement works for your setup.
- Local release and price: Store dates and prices can differ by region and storefront. Verify your local listing rather than relying on a preorder amount or date shown elsewhere.
Quick decision guide
- Want to sample the series? Start with HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, then decide whether to continue.
- Want the full beginner route in one purchase? Choose KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], provided its platform and physical-download conditions suit you.
- Want maximum story context? Include the 358/2 Days and Re:coded cutscene compilations and the χ Back Cover movie; do not mistake those presentations for full playable entries.
