To review a possible Amazon Prime membership charge, match its exact descriptor, amount, and date against your Amazon transaction history, then check your Prime membership and other subscriptions. If it is a Prime renewal, contact Amazon through its official app or website to ask whether that specific charge is eligible for a refund. Cancelling a membership does not, by itself, guarantee a refund.
Identify the charge on your statement
Record the full statement descriptor, amount, date, and whether the transaction is pending or posted. Amazon lists Prime-related descriptors such as AMZ*Prime Shipping Club and AMAZON PRIME*A1B2C3D4Eamzn.com/bill. A descriptor is a clue, not a complete explanation; compare it with the transactions in your Amazon account. Amazon’s charge-identification help explains where to review Amazon transactions.

- Open Amazon’s official website or app directly and sign in.
- Go to Your Transactions or Your Payments transaction history and compare the amount and date with the statement.
- Open Prime membership management and check the membership status, plan, and renewal details. Prime charges may be monthly or annual, depending on the plan.
Rule out other Amazon charges
An Amazon-branded charge is not necessarily a Prime membership renewal. If the date or amount does not match Prime, check other transactions and subscriptions before taking action.
- Prime Video or another digital subscription: A channel or other digital subscription may bill separately. Review digital orders and subscription invoices. Amazon’s Prime Video unknown-charges help describes subscription-renewal possibilities.
- Order charges: An order may be charged in separate parts when items ship separately. Check your order history for matching amounts and shipment dates.
- Pending authorization: A bank authorization used to verify a payment method is not a completed charge. A cancelled order that has not shipped may also leave an authorization visible. Check whether the statement entry is still pending.
- Amazon Pay: A payment made through Amazon Pay is a different category from a Prime membership fee. Check the relevant Amazon Pay activity if the transaction appears to be a payment to another merchant.
- Another authorized user or card: A family member, friend, coworker, or other card associated with the account may explain the transaction. Ask authorized users before treating it as unauthorized.
Ask Amazon about a Prime refund
If the transaction matches a Prime renewal, use Prime membership management to review your status and the cancellation options available for your account. Then contact Amazon Customer Service through the official app or website and ask about refund eligibility for the specific renewal. The applicable terms can depend on the marketplace and account-specific offer; Amazon’s charge-identification guidance does not establish a universal refund entitlement for personal Prime memberships.

Do not assume that cancelling automatically refunds a renewal. Ask Amazon to confirm whether the particular charge qualifies and what action, if any, is needed.
Respond to a charge you still cannot explain
If the statement shows a posted payment that you do not recognize after checking account activity and authorized users, contact your bank or card issuer promptly. Ask about securing the payment method and disputing the transaction. You can also contact Amazon using its official support route.

Amazon Pay’s unauthorized-charge instructions apply to Amazon Pay, not every Prime membership card charge. Likewise, the Amazon Payments unauthorized-transaction policy describes transactions involving an Amazon Payments account and balances and says it does not apply to credit-card transactions. Do not use those Amazon Pay-specific terms as the refund or dispute rules for a Prime membership charge.
Use Amazon’s official channels and avoid refund scams
Type Amazon’s address yourself or open its app rather than following an unexpected message or call link. Amazon advises customers: “To verify your Prime Membership or make payments, log in to Amazon, and under Your Account select Prime Membership.” You can also check whether a communication is genuine in the Amazon Message Center. Amazon says: “Amazon will never ask you to provide payment information for products or services over the phone.” End an unexpected interaction if someone offers a refund while asking for an OTP, remote access, gift cards, or payment outside Amazon. Contact Amazon through the app or website instead.

Amazon Pay’s Canceling Payments help says an initiated Amazon Pay payment cannot be cancelled and that the merchant may issue a refund. For an Amazon Pay payment from a bank account, it may take five to seven business days for the payment to complete before the merchant can initiate a refund. This timing is specific to Amazon Pay bank-account payments; it is not a stated processing time or promise for a Prime membership refund.
