To use a connected app in Gemini, type @ in the prompt box, select an available app—such as Google Maps—and ask for the information or action you need. Sign in first; Google says most Connected Apps access requires Keep Activity to be on. The apps and actions you see depend on your account, device, location, and Gemini app.
Use an @ mention in Gemini
- Sign in to Gemini. For Connected Apps, check that Keep Activity is on. With it off, Connected Apps are unavailable on Gemini web and iOS; Android retains only a limited set of device-assistance and communication apps. See Google’s Connected Apps help.
- Choose an app. In the prompt composer, type
@and select the app from the choices Gemini displays. If it is not connected, follow the connection or permission prompt. - State the task plainly. For example, enter
@Google Maps, find a nearby coffee shop and tell me when it opensor@Google Maps, give me directions to [destination]. Google documents place searches, place details, and directions as supported Maps tasks. - Review the response. Gemini’s answers can be outdated or mistaken. Check linked sources when accuracy matters.
What Gemini can do with Google Maps
Maps in Gemini can use public Google Maps information to find businesses, stores, restaurants, parks, and attractions. It can provide details such as addresses, descriptions, websites, ratings, and opening hours, and give directions by transport mode, including help avoiding tolls. With permission, it may use your device location; it may also use saved Home and Work locations for directions.
Google’s help lists several actions as unsupported: getting live traffic updates, saving location history, accessing saved places other than Home or Work, and adding reviews. For these Maps features, Google requires sign-in and Keep Activity to be on. It also says the additional place-details and common-action features are gradually rolling out and require a personal Google Account, age 18 or over, and an English prompt about a place. Find and use other Connected Apps
The @ menu is not a universal catalog: availability and supported actions vary by account type, Workspace edition, location, language, device, and Gemini app. Check Connected Apps settings in the Gemini app or on the device you use to see what is available to you and what each app can do. Personal Google Accounts
If an app you expect is missing, first check the Connected Apps settings for that Gemini app and device. Some apps or functions may not be available for your account or location. Follow any connection or permission prompts Gemini presents.
Work or school Google Accounts
Connected Apps for work or school require an eligible Workspace edition, Keep Activity on, and administrator enablement. If your organization has disabled an app, contact its administrator. Availability can also vary by account, location, device, language, and Gemini app. Google’s work or school account help explains the requirements.

Use Gemini with Google Workspace
For Workspace requests, make sure Gemini is signed in to the same Google Account you use for Workspace. In a new conversation, explicitly ask Gemini to retrieve or add something from the relevant service—for example, find information in Gmail or Drive, create a Calendar event, or add or retrieve a Task or Keep note. Google says you do not need to repeat the request in follow-ups within that chat.
The connected Workspace app can work with services including Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs, Drive, Keep, and Tasks, subject to availability. Its capabilities have limits: for example, it cannot access some comments and images or manage Drive organization by moving files or creating folders. If the app or action is unavailable
- Confirm you are signed in and, where required, Keep Activity is on.
- Check Connected Apps settings in the Gemini app or device you are using; the available list differs across accounts and devices.
- For a work or school account, confirm the Workspace edition is eligible and ask your administrator whether the app is enabled.
- Check the app’s supported actions. A service appearing in Gemini does not mean every action available in that service is supported.
