There is no single Android setting that clears emoji history across all keyboards. The steps depend on whether you use Gboard or Samsung Keyboard. Google documents resetting Gboard by clearing its data or storage; Samsung provides a keyboard reset menu. Neither vendor’s instructions guarantee that these actions clear only the recent emoji list.
Check which keyboard you use
Find the active keyboard before changing settings: Gboard and Samsung Keyboard have separate reset controls. If you are unsure, open any app where you can type, bring up the keyboard, and check its name in the keyboard’s settings or on the keyboard itself.

Clear Gboard data or storage
Google’s documented broad reset is to clear Gboard’s data or storage. This resets the keyboard to its default state; it is not described as an emoji-only history control.
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Tap Apps (or the equivalent Apps menu), then tap Gboard. Depending on the Android version, the Apps menu may have a different name or location.
- Tap Storage and cache or Storage.
- Choose Clear data or Clear storage and confirm if prompted.
Google treats clearing cache as a separate action from clearing data or storage. Cache clearing is not documented as the full reset; Google directs users to the data/storage reset if the problem persists. Follow Google’s Gboard troubleshooting instructions if your menu labels differ.

Deleting learned words is a different action
Gboard also offers Dictionary > Delete learned words in Gboard settings. The process asks you to enter a confirmation number and tap OK. This removes learned words; Google does not identify it as a control for clearing recent emojis, so do not rely on it for that purpose. See Google’s instructions for the steps.
Reset Samsung Keyboard settings
On supported Galaxy phones and tablets, Samsung’s documented route is to search Settings for Samsung Keyboard and open its reset menu. The available choices cover more than one kind of keyboard data, and Samsung’s instructions do not say which choice, if any, clears the recent emoji list.

- Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
- Use Settings search to find Samsung Keyboard.
- Scroll down and tap Reset to default settings.
- Choose the reset option that matches what you intend to reset. Review its description before confirming.
Samsung lists these choices: Reset keyboard settings, which restores keyboard settings to their defaults; Erase personalized predictions, which removes prediction data and learned words; Erase personalized touch-recognition data; and Clear cache. Samsung says resetting keyboard settings does not remove downloaded languages. The reset menu and emoji suggestions are also described in Samsung’s keyboard features guidance.

What to expect from these resets
- If you use Gboard, clearing data or storage is the documented reset-to-default action. Clearing cache alone is not the same documented reset.
- If you use Samsung Keyboard, select a reset category based on its stated effect; the cited instructions do not confirm an emoji-recents outcome for any one choice.
- Neither vendor’s cited instructions document a control guaranteed to clear just the recent or frequently used emoji list.
