On a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings and look for Wireless emergency alerts. Depending on your model and software, the setting is under either Notifications > Advanced settings or Safety and emergency. Turn on Allow alerts to enable the available alerts, or adjust individual alert switches where shown.
Find Wireless Emergency Alerts in Settings
Samsung’s U.S. instructions document two menu paths. The one on your phone can depend on its model, software version, and carrier.
- Notifications path: Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Wireless emergency alerts. Samsung’s notification settings guide describes this route.
- Safety and emergency path: Settings > Safety and emergency > Wireless emergency alerts. Samsung’s emergency situations guide describes this route.
If neither path matches your Galaxy, open Settings and search for Wireless emergency alerts.
Turn alerts on or off
Enable the available alerts
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Wireless emergency alerts screen using the path available on your phone.
- Turn on Allow alerts, if that switch appears. Samsung notes that it may already be on by default; turning it on enables the alerts available on that device.
Disable alerts or select categories
On the same screen, turn off Allow alerts if that master switch is available and you want to disable the alert set. To keep some types enabled while disabling others, use the individual category switches. The categories and labels vary; National alerts cannot be turned off in Samsung’s Notifications-path instructions.

Samsung’s older or alternate Notifications screen lists National alerts, Extreme threats, Severe threats, AMBER alerts, Public safety messages, and Test alerts. Its Safety and emergency instructions describe Extreme and Severe threats, AMBER alerts, and Test alerts, and also mention settings for vibration, alert reminders, and speaking the alert message. Your phone may not show all of these options.
Check emergency alert history
Open Wireless emergency alerts in Settings and look for Emergency alert history. This lets you review alerts recorded on the phone; its availability and wording may differ between devices.

Why a Samsung phone may not receive an alert
Samsung lists several possible causes for missed alerts. Check these conditions if you expected an alert:
- The phone has poor cell reception.
- Airplane mode is on.
- Alerts are turned off in the Wireless emergency alerts settings.
- You are on a call; Samsung notes that some calls can affect delivery.
- The nearby cell site is not broadcasting the alert, or is under maintenance or out of service.
These are possible reasons, not an exhaustive diagnosis. WEA settings are separate from ordinary app notifications, and changing Do Not Disturb or muting the phone is not the same as changing the Wireless emergency alerts controls.
