First identify where the game runs: directly on a Quest headset, on a Windows PC streamed to Quest, on a PC VR headset and PC, or on a PS5 with PS VR2. The setup and game libraries differ by platform, so check the game’s store page for compatibility and system requirements before buying or installing it.
Choose the right setup path
| Where the game runs | What you need | Setup route |
|---|---|---|
| Quest standalone | A compatible Quest headset and a game listed for Quest | Use the Quest headset’s own store and installation flow. The official sources cited here do not provide current consumer instructions for onboarding a headset or installing a standalone game. |
| PC streamed to Quest | A supported Quest, Windows PC running Steam and SteamVR, and a suitable Wi-Fi network | Install Steam Link from the headset store, then connect to the PC running Steam and SteamVR. See Meta’s Steam Link listing and Steam’s Steam Link guidance. |
| PC VR headset and PC | A VR-compatible Windows PC, headset, and a game that supports them | Follow the headset maker’s setup instructions and the game’s store requirements. For PS VR2 connected to a PC, use the steps below. |
| PS5 with PS VR2 | A PS5, PS VR2 headset, and a title identified as compatible with PS VR2 | Follow the PS5’s on-screen setup flow and confirm the game is in the PS VR2 library. See PlayStation’s PS VR2 compatibility guidance. |
How to set up a new VR game on Meta Quest
For a standalone Quest game
Confirm that the game’s store listing says it runs on your Quest model. Standalone Quest games run on the headset; they do not require Steam or a PC. Use the headset’s current setup and store instructions to install the title. Because Quest onboarding and store steps can change, follow Meta’s current consumer support guidance rather than relying on a PC streaming guide.
For SteamVR games streamed to Quest
In this setup, the Windows PC runs the game and SteamVR; Quest receives the stream. Install Steam and SteamVR on the computer, and install Steam Link from the Quest store. The Meta listing names Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro as supported models and specifies Windows 10 or newer. Check the live listing in case support has changed.
The Meta listing states these minimum Steam Link requirements; they are not a guarantee that every PC VR game will run well:

How to set up PS VR2 on PS5
- On the game’s store page, confirm that it is a PS VR2 title. Original PS VR games do not run on PS VR2, and PS VR2 games do not run on the original PS VR headset.
- Connect and set up PS VR2 by following the PS5’s on-screen instructions.
- Check whether the game is designed for seated, standing, or room-scale play. PlayStation’s guidance says room-scale games require a play area of at least 2 m × 2 m; see PlayStation’s compatibility and play-area guidance.
How to set up PS VR2 on a Windows PC
PS VR2 can play supported VR games available on Steam when connected to a compatible PC. This route does not provide access to the PS5 PS VR2 game library. Sony’s PC setup announcement, dated June 3, 2024, specifies a PS VR2 PC adapter and a separately purchased DisplayPort 1.4 cable; it also notes that performance can vary with PC setup and cable quality. See Sony’s PS VR2 PC adapter announcement.

- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).
- Precise control: features Hall joysticks and Hall triggers for a comfortable feeling, long service life and improved game accuracy.
- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
- Install the software. Install Steam, then install SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 App from Steam. Keep the PlayStation VR2 App installed after setup. The Steam listing for the PlayStation VR2 App identifies Sony Interactive Entertainment as developer and August 6, 2024 as the app’s release date.
- Pair the Sense controllers. In the PC’s Bluetooth settings, pair each controller separately. Hold PS plus Create on the left controller until its status light blinks, then select it in the Bluetooth device list. Hold PS plus Options on the right controller until its light blinks, then select that controller.
- Connect the adapter and headset. Plug the PC adapter directly into a Windows USB 3.0 Type-A port. Connect a DisplayPort 1.4 cable from the adapter to a standard DisplayPort output on the PC, connect adapter power, then connect the headset to the adapter’s USB-C port and turn it on. Sony says a direct USB connection is required; HDMI-to-DisplayPort and USB-C-to-DisplayPort conversion adapters are not supported. See PlayStation’s PC preparation instructions and PlayStation’s PC troubleshooting guidance.
- Complete initial setup. Open PlayStation VR2 App and follow its on-screen directions. Clear the play space, provide enough light for tracking without shining direct sunlight at the cameras, adjust headset fit and lens spacing, secure controller straps, scan the play area, and set floor height when prompted. Sony’s setup steps are at PlayStation PC preparation for PS VR2.
- Check the game, then launch it. Confirm the SteamVR title supports your headset and controllers and meets its own PC requirements. The app’s requirements alone do not establish that a specific game will run well.
PS VR2 PC app requirements
The PlayStation VR2 App’s Steam listing gives these minimum requirements: Windows 10 or 11 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 with Zen 2 or later, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later), NVIDIA RTX series, or AMD RX 5500XT/RX 6500XT or later. Its recommendation is an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT or later. These are app/headset requirements; a particular SteamVR game may require more. Check the Steam app listing and the game’s own requirements.
Check compatibility and play features before starting
A game’s platform label is only the first check. Verify the host hardware, play space, controller support, and features that matter to you before installing or purchasing.

- Platform: Distinguish Quest standalone from PC streaming to Quest, SteamVR PC, and PS5 PS VR2. A title available on one route is not automatically available on another; check the game’s own store page.
- PC and network: For Quest streaming, compare the PC and Wi-Fi setup with the Steam Link listing and the game’s requirements. For PC VR, check the game’s GPU and other PC requirements, not just the headset app’s minimum.
- Accessories: PS VR2 on PC requires the PC adapter and a separate DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Bluetooth is needed for pairing Sense controllers; add a Bluetooth adapter only if the PC does not have Bluetooth.
- Space and play style: Check whether the title supports seated, standing, or room-scale play and follow its stated space requirements.
- Controllers and headset features: Confirm controller support and bindings. On PC, PS VR2 does not support HDR, eye tracking, headset feedback, adaptive triggers, or Sense controller haptics beyond basic vibration. See PlayStation’s PC feature and setup guidance.
Troubleshoot PS VR2 on PC
If the image, tracking, or controls are not right, start with the connection and setup checks before changing game settings.
- No image or unstable connection: Recheck the PC adapter, direct USB connection, DisplayPort connection, and adapter power. Avoid unsupported HDMI-to-DisplayPort or USB-C-to-DisplayPort conversion adapters.
- Image problems or stutter: PlayStation suggests lowering SteamVR image quality or turning off Motion Smoothing. Check that the PC meets the relevant requirements.
- Tracking problems: Improve room lighting, close curtains to prevent direct sunlight reaching the cameras, and rescan the play area.
- Buttons do not match: Review the game’s SteamVR controller bindings.
PlayStation’s full PS VR2 PC troubleshooting guide covers these checks. If they do not resolve the issue, consult current manufacturer guidance for headset and PC drivers.
