The Shorts Feed is personalized, so Studio data can show where a Short has been distributed and how viewers responded—not guarantee who will see it next.
Check the Short’s upload status in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Find the Short you want to check. Confirm it is the intended upload and review its visibility and any status notices shown in Studio, such as processing, restrictions, or a claim.
- Open the Short’s details if you need to confirm its settings. Studio labels and menus can change; there is no separate recommendation-eligibility label to look for.
A public Short can be available to viewers without being guaranteed distribution in recommendations. A status notice is useful context for interpreting the upload, but it is not itself a universal recommendation verdict.
Use Analytics to see whether it reached the Shorts Feed
- In Studio, open the Short and select its Analytics.
- Review the traffic sources to see whether viewers found it through the Shorts Feed, and examine the available audience-response measures.
- Interpret those figures as a record of observed exposure and response. They do not certify future distribution or reveal a fixed threshold the Short must cross.
YouTube says Shorts discovery can take account of whether viewers choose to watch, ignore, or mark a Short “not interested,” as well as average view duration, average percentage viewed, likes, and post-watch survey results. These are signals, not published pass marks. YouTube’s broader recommendations guidance says its system learns from “over 80 billion pieces of information” it calls signals; that figure describes the recommendation system generally, not a count of Shorts-specific signals. Put performance in context
Compare the Short with similar videos on your own channel, then consider the topic and timing. A Short’s reach can vary with viewer interests and behavior, competition from other videos, topic interest, and seasonality—even when its own metrics appear strong. YouTube does not specify one metric that independently makes a Short recommendation-eligible.

YouTube’s Search and discovery tips for Shorts also says there is no minimum posting cadence required for videos to perform well. Upload frequency, hashtags, or a single favorable metric cannot guarantee recommendations.
Consider originality when the Short uses someone else’s material
If a Short includes another creator’s clip, consider whether your version adds meaningful commentary, editing, storytelling, or a distinct perspective. In an October 1, 2026 official Community post, JJ of TeamYouTube said the recommendation systems would “further prioritize original content and reduce the reach of content re-uploaded from other creators without adding anything of your own.” That announcement describes a direction for recommendations, not a per-video eligibility check or a promised outcome for any particular upload. Keep recommendations separate from monetization
Recommendation distribution is not the same as joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) or qualifying for Shorts revenue sharing. To check YPP application and qualification status, use the Earn area in Studio and consult YouTube Partner Program overview & eligibility. Shorts payment rules and qualified-view requirements are covered separately in YouTube Shorts monetization policies. Neither YPP status nor revenue eligibility is a general recommendation-eligibility test.
