RIDGID makes vacs and accessories in different sizes, so your exact owner’s manual and the labels on your vac and filter take precedence over examples in this guide.
Start with the vac and filter that match the job
Before cleanup, identify the vac’s model and capacity and check the manual for its approved filter, bag, liquid limits, and accessory connections. RIDGID’s product listings give examples of compatibility ranges, not a universal fit for every RIDGID vac.
- Ordinary dry debris: Use the general-debris filter specified for your model. RIDGID describes the VF4000 for sawdust and general dirt on 5-gallon-and-larger vacs, and the VF3400 for 3–4.5-gallon vacs. Confirm that the specific filter fits your vac.
- Fine dust: Use a fine-dust filter only when RIDGID identifies it as suitable for both your vac and the material. The VF3500 is described for dry pickup and most 3–4.5-gallon vacs, with fine powders among its listed uses. That description does not establish suitability for every hazardous dust or exposure condition.
- Liquid: Follow the manual’s wet-pickup configuration, including the specified wet-application filter and any float instructions. A dry filter should not be assumed interchangeable with a wet filter.
A collection bag can make dry-debris disposal easier and help keep the drum clean, but bags also have model-specific sizing. RIDGID lists the VF3502 size A for listed 12–16-gallon vacs and instructs users to remove the bag for wet pickup.
Clean dry sawdust, chips, and ordinary dirt
- Check the manual and filter label to verify the general-debris filter is approved for your vac.
- If you use a compatible collection bag, install it as the manual directs. Do not use the bag when switching to wet pickup.
- Fit the supplied floor nozzle or utility nozzle for the area. Use extension wands when they help you reach under benches or across a floor without straining the hose.
- Vacuum the debris, then empty the drum or replace the bag as directed by the manual.
For repeated cleanup, a bag may reduce the amount of loose debris left in the drum, but it does not replace the need to keep the filter intact and maintained.

Collect finer dust without assuming the filter makes it hazard-safe
Use only a fine-dust filter that RIDGID lists for the vac and material. The VF3500 is one example for most 3–4.5-gallon vacs; check its product information and your manual rather than choosing by brand name alone.
When dust builds up on the filter, clean it outdoors in an open area. RIDGID’s manual specifically advises against cleaning accumulated dust in occupied living quarters. A fine-dust filter listing is not proof that the vac is appropriate for every hazardous substance or exposure scenario.

Switch to wet pickup for a spill
- Turn off the vac and isolate its power using the procedure in the exact model’s manual: a cordless model may require battery removal, while a corded model will specify unplugging.
- Remove the dry collection bag. RIDGID’s VF3502 listing expressly says the bag must be removed for wet pickup.
- Install the wet-application filter or other setup specified by the manual. RIDGID identifies the VF3700 as a wet-application filter for smaller vacs; verify fit and requirements for your model.
- Check the manual for float guidance and the maximum liquid level. Do not exceed the model’s stated limit.
- Collect the spill, then empty and clean the drum as directed. Allow parts that need to be dry for storage or later dry pickup to dry fully.
Wet-filter and post-use instructions can vary by vac and filter. Do not substitute a dry cartridge merely because it fits physically.
Reach floors, corners, and awkward areas
Use the supplied nozzle and extension wands for routine floor and reach work. For a compatible master floor nozzle, RIDGID’s VT1738 Premium Floor Cleaning Kit has inserts intended to fit its nozzle head. Check model compatibility, hose or accessory diameter, and connection style before buying or attaching any tool. Use a compatible crevice attachment for narrow gaps if one is supplied or available for your vac.

- Top of the line 6.5 Peak Horsepower - High performance wet/dry vacuum provides optimum power
- Longer motor life - Durable, long-lasting motor backs industry's best warranty
- Sturdy Cart, Push Handle & Large Rear Wheels act together to allow the vac to travel easily up/down stairs and over rough terrain and thresholds
Use blower mode only if your model supports it
Some RIDGID vacs can blow through an exhaust port, while other models may use a detachable blower or may not have the same configuration. For example, RIDGID describes a blower port on the HD0600; that feature should not be assumed on other models. Follow the manual, aim debris toward a safe collection point, and do not blow dust toward people or into occupied areas.
Clean and inspect the filter
RIDGID’s owner’s manual says, “Your filter should be cleaned often to maintain peak Vac performance.” Use the cleaning method for your exact filter; not every filter has identical care instructions.

These are product-specific examples; a shared RIDGID name does not guarantee that a filter, bag, or accessory fits every vac. For example, the HD0600 is listed by RIDGID as a 6-gallon vac with 64 CFM and 67 inches of lift. Those are specifications for that model, not a general performance guarantee for the product line.
