These tests help separate a problem selecting a tab from a page that has stopped responding; they do not identify the cause by themselves.
First, identify what “not responding” means
Notice exactly what happens before troubleshooting. A tab that cannot be selected is different from a tab that opens but shows frozen page content. Also note whether the issue affects every tab or just one, whether the wrong window receives focus, and whether it occurs after clicking a notification or returning from Picture-in-Picture (PiP). These details make the next checks more useful.
- Clicks fail, but keyboard navigation works: Dia can still change tabs, so the problem may be limited to clicking or focus. This is a diagnostic clue, not a confirmed cause.
- Neither clicks nor shortcuts change the selected tab: Try Tab Search to see whether Dia can select the tab another way.
- The tab changes, but its page is frozen: The tab-selection problem is resolved, but the page-content problem remains; do not treat them as the same symptom.
- The wrong tab or window activates: Record what action triggered it, especially if it was a notification click or a return from PiP.
Switch tabs with keyboard shortcuts
Dia’s shortcut guide lists Control+Tab and Control+Shift+Tab for cycling through tabs. Try both while the affected Dia window is active. If they work but clicking does not, you have a temporary way to reach tabs and a useful clue that the failure is not a complete inability to switch.
If a shortcut does nothing, check whether its binding was changed: open Dia → Settings → Shortcuts. The guide describes the shortcuts as “Ctrl + tab / ctrl + shift + tab — Cycle through tabs.” Dia’s shortcut guide

Use Tab Search to select the tab
Press Command+Shift+A to open Dia’s Tab Search, then search by the tab title or a keyword. This provides another route to a tab when clicking the strip or sidebar is unreliable but Dia still responds to keyboard input.
Dia’s 1.33.0 release note says Tab Search includes recently closed tabs and groups. In the 1.51.0 notes, pinned tabs are also listed in search results. Dia’s macOS changelog

Check your Dia version and relevant fixes
Record the installed Dia version before comparing it with release notes. Dia has previously addressed tab activation and focus behavior: its 1.43.0 release note says it “Resolves long-standing bugs where notification clicks, PIP back-to-tab, and other web content activation events failed to select the correct tab or focus the right window.” That history is relevant if your symptom follows one of those actions, but it does not show that an older bug is causing your current problem.
The latest version note identified in the changelog is Dia 1.51.0, dated October 1, 2026. Its notes say the Control+Tab switcher presents five tabs rather than ten. Check the changelog for the version you have and any later release notes; do not assume a fix applies until you verify the version and the specific issue described.

Record a reproducible performance issue
If the problem happens repeatedly, use Dia’s documented reporting route: Help → Record a Performance Issue. Dia’s guidance says to describe what feels wrong and ensure the issue occurs while recording.
- Reproduce the problem while the recording is active.
- Describe the action and result—for example, clicking a tab leaves the same tab selected, or returning from PiP focuses the wrong window.
- Include your Dia and macOS versions as useful troubleshooting context.
Check service status, but don’t treat it as a diagnosis
Dia’s status page showed no incidents reported for October 1–3, 2026, when checked. A clear status page is only a snapshot: it cannot rule out a local app problem, an issue affecting one site, or a newly emerging service problem. Dia status

What these checks can—and can’t—tell you
Keyboard shortcuts and Tab Search can help you reach a tab without relying on the tab strip. Release notes provide context for known fixes, while a performance recording can capture a repeatable symptom. None of those alone identifies why a particular tab will not switch or why a page’s content may be frozen. The evidence here does not establish a universal quit, reset, cache-deletion, or reinstall procedure as the official remedy.
