You can set a Shorts feed limit in the YouTube app. For a regular personal account, it is a reminder that can be dismissed—not a locked block. A parent managing a supervised child account can set a separate daily limit that stops the child from scrolling the Shorts feed for the rest of the day after it is reached.
Set a Shorts limit on your personal YouTube account
YouTube’s documented steps are for the signed-in YouTube app. The limit controls time in the Shorts feed; it does not permanently remove Shorts from YouTube.
- Sign in to the YouTube app.
- Tap You.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Time management.
- Tap Shorts feed limit.
- Choose 0 or another available time limit.
YouTube says that when you reach the selected limit, a message appears with an option to dismiss or ignore it. So setting zero can serve as a prompt to avoid the feed, but it is not an unbypassable restriction on a personal account. See YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit.
Limit Shorts for a child with a supervised account
Parents can set a daily Shorts feed limit for a child’s supervised YouTube account through YouTube Family Center or Family Link. In Family Center, select the child’s account, open Time management, and set the daily Shorts feed limit. YouTube’s documented Family Link route is through the child’s controls and YouTube settings; the exact menu labels can vary by app version.

YouTube says that when a teen reaches the daily limit, they cannot scroll the Shorts feed for the rest of that day, and the limit resets each morning. This parent control applies when the child is using the supervised account. You can learn about account setup in YouTube Help on supervised kid accounts.
Parents can also block individual channels through Family Center. That prevents access to selected channels; it does not switch off the Shorts format or replace the daily feed limit. Details are in YouTube Help: Parental controls and settings for supervised kid accounts.

Does Restricted Mode turn off Shorts?
No. YouTube describes Restricted Mode as an optional setting that helps screen potentially adult content; its documentation does not identify it as a way to disable the Shorts feed. It is also distinct from a supervised account, which gives parents controls for a child’s YouTube experience.
