Samsung Keyboard is the better starting point if you want Galaxy-oriented features, such as eligible Galaxy AI Writing Assist or layouts for DeX and keyboard covers. Gboard is a strong fit if you want Google’s advertised glide typing or translation while composing. For voice input, handwriting, and privacy, compare the options and settings on your own device rather than assuming one wins outright.
There is no controlled head-to-head evidence here establishing that either keyboard is faster, more accurate, or categorically more private. The practical choice depends on your Galaxy model, software, languages, and how you type.

What Samsung Keyboard offers Galaxy owners
Samsung documents ways to manage input languages, switch voice-input options, and use handwriting with a finger or S Pen. Its Galaxy Store listing also describes chat translation, custom shortcuts, and layouts for DeX, car mode, and keyboard covers.

Writing Assist is model- and software-dependent
Galaxy AI Writing Assist may tip the balance toward Samsung Keyboard if your device is eligible and you want its supported writing tools. Samsung’s support page specifies models and software requirements; the feature is not available on every Galaxy phone or tablet. Check the latest supported-device list before choosing on that basis, since eligibility information can change.
What Gboard offers
Google Play advertises Glide Typing, voice typing, handwriting, and Google Translate for translation while typing in Gboard. Those features make it a sensible option if you prefer swipe-style input or want translation integrated into composing. The listing describes features, not whether Gboard performs them better than Samsung Keyboard on your device. See Gboard on Google Play.

Google’s 2016 announcement described integrated Google Search and multilingual autocorrection and suggestions at Gboard’s launch. That is historical context, not reliable evidence that every launch-era detail is unchanged today.
Compare voice input, languages, and handwriting on your Galaxy
Samsung’s keyboard and the voice-to-text engine are not the same thing. Samsung support identifies two built-in voice-input apps—Samsung Voice Input and Google Voice Typing—and explains how to select Google Voice Typing. The available choices and language support can vary by device and settings. Follow Samsung’s keyboard and input support guidance to check your setup.

For handwriting, Samsung documents input with a finger or S Pen, while Gboard also lists handwriting support. If handwriting matters, try each keyboard with your usual language and apps; the feature labels alone do not establish which will suit your device or writing style better.
For voice typing, test the languages and workflow you actually use. A voice-input option being available does not establish that it will recognize your speech more accurately than the alternative.

What the privacy documentation does—and does not—say
Google’s Gboard help describes personalization and federated learning. Google says federated learning does not send the text you speak or type to Google; instead, the system sends what it learns so it can be combined with learnings from other users. The same help page notes that on-device learning may still occur even if you do not donate audio snippets. Review Google’s Gboard privacy and learning information alongside the current controls in your app.
Samsung’s privacy policy identifies words typed with Predictive text enabled as Samsung Keyboard information within its broader Samsung services policy. That statement does not establish that all keystrokes are uploaded. Its application depends on policy scope, region, settings, and feature use; see Samsung’s privacy policy.

These descriptions cover different practices and scopes, so they do not support a categorical ranking of one keyboard as more private. If this is a deciding factor, check each keyboard’s current settings and documentation for the features you use.
How to choose without assuming a universal winner
- Check your device and software. If Writing Assist is important, confirm your exact Galaxy model and software meet Samsung’s current requirements before treating it as a deciding feature.
- Try the input method you rely on. Test glide typing, handwriting, and voice input in your usual apps and languages. For voice, compare the available Samsung Voice Input and Google Voice Typing options.
- Match the keyboard to your Galaxy setup. If you use DeX, car mode, or a keyboard cover, Samsung Keyboard’s listed layouts make it a logical first choice. Check availability on your own device.
- Review the settings that matter to you. Inspect personalization, predictive text, and other relevant privacy controls in each keyboard; feature names alone do not tell the whole story.
If neither has a must-have feature for you, try both with your real typing routine. The available sources do not provide controlled comparative typing-speed or error-rate results, so a personal test is more useful than a blanket accuracy claim.
