ESPN video captions, iPhone notifications, and visual accessibility options are controlled in different places. Use the ESPN player’s CC button for captions, iPhone Settings for notification permissions and per-app visual settings, and the ESPN app’s Settings gear for app preferences that may vary by version.
Turn ESPN notifications on or off on iPhone

- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Notifications, then tap ESPN.
- Use Allow Notifications to turn notifications on or off. When available, adjust alert locations, sounds, badges, previews, delivery timing, and notification types.
The choices on this screen depend on what the app and your iOS version support. ESPN may also offer notification categories inside the app, but its currently available category list is not established here. For ESPN-specific preferences, tap the app’s Settings gear; exact menu labels and options can change between versions.
Adjust ESPN’s visual accessibility settings
For visual settings that apply specifically to ESPN, use Apple’s per-app controls:

- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings.
- Tap Add App and choose ESPN if it appears.
- Tap the ESPN entry to view and change the available settings.
Apple says per-app options can include color, text size, and motion. The controls shown depend on iOS and the app. These settings affect visual presentation; they do not determine whether a particular ESPN video stream offers captions.
The U.S. App Store listing checked October 4, 2026, says ESPN requires iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone. Compatibility information can change. The listing also says the developer has not indicated which accessibility features the app supports; that is a disclosure status, not proof that ESPN lacks accessibility features.

Turn captions on for ESPN video
Start the video, then look for the CC button in the player and tap it to enable captions. ESPN says captions are available on most content, but availability varies by stream. Its support information lists selected live channels and event content with captions, so the CC option may not appear for every video.
Some Spanish-language subtitles are burned into the video image rather than provided as a toggleable caption track. Those subtitles cannot be turned off with the player’s CC control. ESPN has also published iOS caption-setting instructions using older menu wording; iPhone labels can change, so check the current iOS caption settings if you need system-level caption options rather than relying on a legacy path.

Find other ESPN video preferences
For app-specific preferences, tap the Settings gear in ESPN. The exact layout and availability of options—including video or alert preferences—can vary by app version. ESPN’s support information describes changing the ESPN Deportes edition through this gear; it does not establish a universal current menu for autoplay, video previews, or every team and news alert.

ESPN says a video can take several seconds to appear. If it remains black or has no audio or video, the service identifies content filters, mobile antivirus software, and proxy acceleration as possible streaming blockers.
