To create an image with Meta Muse, open Meta AI on a surface where Muse Image is available, describe what you want or provide a photo, then refine the result in the conversation. Meta says you can download the finished image or share it to a chat, story, or feed; the exact controls depend on the surface.
Availability varies by region and account. At its July 7, 2026 launch, Meta listed the Meta AI app and meta.ai, Instagram Stories in the US, and WhatsApp in limited countries. Facebook was described as coming soon. That launch list is not a current country-by-country guarantee, so check the product you use for access.
What is Meta Muse Image?
Muse Image is Meta’s image-generation feature in Meta AI. You can ask it to create an image from a written prompt or work from an existing photo. Meta describes it as supporting conversational edits, multiple image references, presets, and text within visuals. Those are Meta’s capability descriptions, not guarantees that every instruction, detail, or text rendering will come out correctly.
Meta’s July 7, 2026 announcement says, “Using Meta AI with Muse Image is free for everyday creation.” That statement does not establish generation limits, account eligibility, or the terms of any subscription plan.

How to create an image with Meta AI
- Open an available Meta AI surface. Use the Meta AI app or meta.ai if Muse Image is offered to your account. Instagram Stories and WhatsApp were also among Meta’s launch surfaces, with the regional limits noted above.
- Describe the image or provide a photo. Use ordinary language and specify the subject, setting, style, and any details that matter. You can ask for a new image or an edit to an existing photo. Meta’s examples include removing a photobomber and making a QR-code graphic; these examples do not guarantee precise editing or a scannable QR code.
- Use a preset if you need a starting point. Meta says presets can help you get started, including for restoring a family photo or trying a different visual style.
- Refine the result. Continue the conversation with the change you want. Meta also describes a markup control for circling, sketching, or annotating an area to guide an edit. The visible controls may differ across products.
- Review the result before using it. Check important details yourself, especially text, factual content, or edits that need to be exact. Meta’s descriptions do not establish reliability for those tasks.
How to share or download the image
When you are satisfied with the result, use the available download or share control. Meta says Muse Image output can be downloaded or shared directly to a chat, story, or feed. Which destinations and buttons appear depends on where you created the image, so follow the options shown in that app or on the web page rather than expecting identical controls everywhere.
What changed about Instagram account references?
Do not try to generate an image by @-mentioning a public Instagram account as a reference. Meta removed that option in a July 10, 2026 update, saying, “We’ve heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it’s no longer available.” The Associated Press reported on the change on July 11, 2026: AP coverage of Meta’s change.

What to know about image provenance
Meta says Muse Image output created in Meta AI and meta.ai carries Content Seal, an invisible provenance signal. Meta says it remains intact through cropping, compression, resizing, and screenshots, and described a detection tool as a preview. These statements are scoped to Meta’s named surfaces; they do not establish that every image shared from every Meta product carries the signal, or that a signal by itself proves authorship.

Meta’s July 7, 2026 Research post also reported that Muse Image ranked No. 2 on Arena for text-to-image, single-image editing, and multi-image editing by human-preference Elo rankings as of July 5, 2026. That is a dated ranking reported by Meta, not a universal quality verdict or a guarantee for an individual prompt.
