Turn on the alerts you want to notice, but treat routine heart-rate notifications differently from emergency safety features. High- and low-heart-rate alerts and Unusual trends can offer prompts, not diagnoses; Loss of Pulse Detection and Fall Detection are safety features with setup, device, region, and connection limits. No one setting is right for everyone, and no Pixel Watch alert or emergency call is guaranteed.

Quick guide: which notifications to keep on?

Feature What it does Practical choice
High- and low-heart-rate alerts Notifies you during periods of abnormally high or low heart rate during the day. Keep them on if you want these prompts; turn them off if they are not useful to you. They are not a diagnosis.
Irregular Rhythm Notifications Provides a notification about an irregular rhythm. It is separate from Loss of Pulse Detection. Decide whether you want the notifications, but do not treat one as a confirmed diagnosis.
Loss of Pulse Detection Checks in if the watch does not detect a pulse while worn and may attempt to call emergency services if you do not respond. Consider setting it up if your watch and country support it and you understand its limits. It is not a substitute for prescribed monitoring.
Fall Detection and related safety features Safety features that can seek help in certain situations; availability and emergency calling depend on the model and connection. Review the feature and call requirements for your watch and region before relying on it.
Unusual trends A Google Health Labs research feature that looks for potential unusual trends in health metrics. Use only if you want a research feature and understand that it can miss trends or flag something that does not match how you feel. Turn it off if you do not want it.

Google’s support material describes what these features do but does not recommend one universal on/off configuration. For regular app alerts such as messages, use the Pixel Watch app’s notification controls rather than changing a health or safety feature.

How to think about heart-rate and rhythm notifications

High- and low-heart-rate alerts

Google documents alerts for periods of abnormally high and low heart rate throughout the day. They can prompt you to pay attention, but Google’s guidance does not establish a single best setting or threshold for every person. Do not use an alert—or the absence of one—as a diagnosis. Google’s heart-rate alert guidance describes the feature.

Irregular Rhythm Notifications and ECG

Irregular Rhythm Notifications are distinct from Loss of Pulse Detection. Google explicitly says they are separate features. The ECG app analyzes heart-rhythm data for signs of AFib, but only a doctor can diagnose AFib. ECG availability is limited to select countries and has age eligibility limits, so check Google’s ECG availability and eligibility guidance before expecting it to be available on your watch.

Loss of Pulse Detection: a safety feature, not routine monitoring

On supported watches, Loss of Pulse Detection checks in when the watch does not detect a pulse while worn. If you do not respond to the check-in and countdown, it may attempt to call emergency services. It is documented for Pixel Watch 3 and later in selected countries, requires setup in the Pixel Watch app, and requires a Google account signed in to Personal Safety. Check Google’s Loss of Pulse Detection guide for current country availability and setup details.

This feature can miss events or check in after a poor sensor reading. It cannot determine the cause of a loss of pulse and does not replace prescribed continuous monitoring. Its emergency call may not connect. Treat it as an additional safety layer, not as a guarantee of detection or response.

Fall Detection and emergency-call requirements

Fall Detection and related emergency features are not ordinary health notifications. Support differs by watch generation, and the ability to place an emergency call depends on the watch’s connection and region. A Wi-Fi model relies on a nearby paired phone connected over Bluetooth; an LTE model needs active LTE service. Some regions have additional requirements. Review Google’s safety-feature and emergency-calling guidance for the requirements that apply to your model and location.

Should you enable Unusual trends?

Unusual trends, offered through Google Health Labs, is a research feature that uses health metrics to identify potential patterns. Google cautions that it may miss a trend or send a detection that does not match how you feel, and says: “Do not rely on Unusual trends for any health assessment.” If you still want to try it, use the setting in Google Health; switch it off there if you do not want the feature or its notifications. See Google’s Unusual trends information for details.

How to turn off unwanted Pixel Watch notifications

Use the Pixel Watch app notification controls for ordinary app alerts. Health-feature setup and controls may instead be in Google Health or Safety settings, so changing app notifications is not the same as disabling a health or emergency feature.

  1. Open the Pixel Watch app on your phone.
  2. Go to Settings, then Notifications.
  3. Choose a watch or phone app and change whether it can send notifications to the watch.
  4. Use the available controls to mute notification sounds or vibration if you want to keep alerts but make them quieter.

On supported Wear OS versions, you can also turn off an app’s notifications from that notification’s entry in the watch’s notification list. Google’s notification settings guide explains these controls.

Before relying on any health or safety alert

  • Check that your watch generation and country support the feature; availability is not the same for every Pixel Watch.
  • Complete the required setup, especially for Loss of Pulse Detection, and confirm the account and connection requirements.
  • Decide whether each alert is useful to you. Google does not prescribe a universal configuration.
  • Do not treat a notification, ECG result, missed alert, or lack of an alert as a medical diagnosis or a replacement for care or prescribed monitoring.
  • For emergency features, understand that detection can fail and calls may not connect.
