To switch screen modes on the TCL NXTPAPER 5G, open Settings > NXTPAPER zone and choose the look you want. Select Regular Mode for standard vivid color, Color Paper Mode for softer color, or Ink Paper Mode for a black-and-white reading view. You can also use the NXTPAPER Key, though its action may be customized.
Change the screen mode in Settings
- Wake the phone and make sure its display is on.
- Open Settings > NXTPAPER zone.
- Select your preferred mode: Regular Mode, Color Paper Mode, or Ink Paper Mode.
The TCL VZW TCL-8189S user manual gives this Settings path as an alternative to pressing the NXTPAPER Key: TCL VZW TCL-8189S User Manual, section 10.7. Menu labels or key behavior may vary with regional model or software version.
Choose the mode that suits what you are doing
| Mode | Screen appearance | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Mode | Bright, high-definition original colors | Standard color viewing |
| Color Paper Mode | Lower saturation and softer color | A paper-like look while keeping color, including for comics and other graphic content |
| Ink Paper Mode | Black-and-white, paper-like presentation | Monochrome reading |
These mode descriptions come from TCL’s user manual and its TCL 50 NXTPAPER 5G product page. TCL describes the display effects; that wording should not be taken as evidence of a medical benefit.
Use the NXTPAPER Key as a shortcut
With the display on, press the NXTPAPER Key to change modes. The key is customizable, so it may switch between a different pair of modes or invoke Max Ink Mode instead. The TCL 50 NXTPAPER 5G product page confirms that the key can be assigned as a switch to other NXTPAPER UI modes.
