Which gaming earbuds are better? There is no clear overall winner established by comparable testing. The SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds are the more straightforward pick if you need Xbox support—but you must buy the Xbox edition. The Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed is a cross-platform option with a USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle, Bluetooth 5.3, and app-adjustable hybrid ANC. Start by checking which console you own, then compare the published specifications that matter to your setup.
Check console compatibility first
The GameBuds come in separate Xbox and PlayStation editions, and their dongles are not interchangeable in capability. SteelSeries says the PlayStation edition’s single-mode dongle works with PlayStation and PC. The Xbox edition has a dual-mode dongle with Xbox and PlayStation/PC modes. If you need Xbox support, confirm that the listing specifically identifies the Xbox edition.

How their connections and features compare

| Gaming connection | High-speed 2.4 GHz wireless dongle; edition determines console modes. [SteelSeries; SteelSeries Support] | 2.4 GHz wireless through a USB-C dongle. Razer’s 2023 launch announcement claimed under 40 ms latency; this is a manufacturer claim, not a comparative test. [Razer, 2023] |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 5.3. [SteelSeries] | Bluetooth 5.3. [Razer Support] |
| Noise control | ANC and transparency mode. [SteelSeries] | App-adjustable hybrid ANC. [Razer Support] |

Both offer a dongle connection for gaming and Bluetooth for other devices. SteelSeries advertises more than 100 game audio presets, a stated feature count rather than a measure of audio quality. [SteelSeries]

Battery figures are not a matched test
SteelSeries advertises up to 10 hours per charge and 40 hours total with the case. Razer’s 2023 launch announcement says its case adds 24 hours. These are manufacturer figures presented under different conditions; the available specifications do not establish a like-for-like runtime winner. Check each manufacturer’s current product information for the conditions and settings that apply to your use. [SteelSeries; Razer, 2023]
Both cases support wireless charging, but a Qi pad is optional: Razer also lists USB-C charging, and SteelSeries describes Qi as a case feature. [SteelSeries; Razer Support]

What the specifications cannot settle
ANC labels do not show how effectively either model reduces noise in a particular room or during travel. The available sources also do not provide a controlled head-to-head test of sound quality, microphone performance, fit, or comfort. Those are subjective or test-dependent qualities, so no reliable winner on them can be named from specifications alone.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the GameBuds Xbox edition if Xbox compatibility is a requirement; verify the edition on the retailer listing.
- Consider either model if your priority is switching between a 2.4 GHz gaming connection and Bluetooth. Confirm console support and that the USB-C dongle fits your actual device or adapter setup.
- Compare current local prices and stock before judging value. Razer’s $199.99 USD figure was its 2023 launch MSRP, not a verified current retail price. [Razer, 2023]
- Look for credible testing of both exact models if sound, microphone, ANC, or comfort is the deciding factor; specifications do not establish those comparative results.
