Audible credits are membership benefits you can use on titles marked “1 credit”; they are not cash. Audiobooks you buy with a credit or payment stay in your Library after cancellation, while access to titles included with Premium ends when the membership benefit ends. The details below reflect Audible’s United States English help pages accessed October 4, 2026; plans, prices, and availability can differ by marketplace.
How Audible credits work
Credits are a recurring benefit of eligible Premium membership plans. The number and delivery schedule depend on the plan: Audible’s U.S. help page describes plans providing one or two credits monthly, or 12 or 24 credits upfront annually. A credit can be used on a title marked with a “1 credit” badge. Credits cannot be used to purchase audiobooks with Amazon Music Unlimited. Audible explains credit eligibility and use.

Credits are not interchangeable with money or with access to the included catalog. Audible also offers eligible members extra-credit bundles, but availability depends on account and membership criteria. The help page says a member must have a credit-including plan, no credits remaining, and at least 30 days on the same membership. Audible Plus and legacy memberships created before December 2005 are ineligible; trial members cannot buy discounted extra credits. Check the offer shown in your account for availability and price.
When Audible credits expire
Most membership, gift, complimentary, special, and returned credits expire 12 months after issue or when membership ends, whichever comes first. Audible lists exceptions for credits received through App Store or Google Play memberships, and extra credits bought in its iOS or Android apps do not expire under the help page’s stated terms. A refunded credit expires 12 months after it was issued, even if the original credit had a different expiration rule. Because the date depends on credit type and issue date, check the credit summary in your account for each credit’s expiration date. Audible’s credit help page describes the exceptions.

What you keep when you cancel
When the final billing cycle ends, unused credits and Premium membership benefits end. That includes access to titles available only as part of the included catalog; those titles may appear locked in your Library. If a purchase option is available, you may buy a locked title separately or regain access by rejoining.
Titles purchased with a credit or payment remain in your Library after cancellation and can be downloaded again. Audible’s cancellation help page distinguishes purchased titles from membership benefits. You can also continue to purchase titles without an active membership. Use credits before the end of your final billing period, and check their individual expiration dates rather than assuming they will carry over.

How to cancel an Audible membership
- If you pay Audible directly: open Membership details in your Audible account and follow the cancellation steps.
- If you subscribed through Apple or Google: cancel the subscription through the App Store or Google Play, respectively; Audible-direct cancellation does not end a store-billed subscription.
- Do not rely on deleting the app: removing Audible from your device does not cancel the membership.

Can you return an Audible audiobook?
Audible’s U.S. help page describes returns for eligible titles bought with a credit, not an unconditional satisfaction guarantee. The stated conditions are an active Premium membership in good standing and a return within 365 days of purchase. Audible may limit the number of returns or remove self-service return privileges. Purchases through the App Store or Google Play must be handled through the relevant store’s customer-service channel.

A returned title is removed from your Library. The refunded credit expires 12 months after it was issued. Check Audible’s return policy for current eligibility and return options.
What happens to pre-orders if you cancel?
Pre-orders remain in place after membership cancellation. If you applied a credit, it remains applied; if you chose card payment, Audible charges the card when the title becomes available. If the card-funded pre-order’s price is lower on release day, Audible says it refunds the difference. You can cancel a pre-order through Purchase history before release. How to compare Audible membership options
The credit quantities and delivery schedules alone do not show which plan is the best value. Compare the terms that affect how you listen and pay:
- How many credits the plan provides and whether they arrive monthly or upfront annually.
- Whether access to included titles matters to you, and what happens to that access if you cancel.
- Any member discounts or other benefits shown for the plan.
- The current price and billing channel displayed for your marketplace and account.
Audible’s help information does not provide a complete current price-and-feature comparison here, so it does not establish a cheapest plan or a reliable cost-per-credit figure. Verify the current offer in your account before choosing.

Marketplace and regional differences
Your Audible marketplace determines available plans, prices, and titles. A marketplace switch takes effect with the next billing cycle. Purchased titles remain in your Library after a switch, but geographic restrictions can prevent playback of some titles.
