The correct battery depends on the exact watch or module, and a caseback that looks closed does not prove the watch still meets its rating.
Before replacing the battery, identify your exact G-SHOCK
There is no single battery number or universal replacement procedure for every G-SHOCK. Find the watch’s model or module number and use the matching CASIO manual to confirm the specified cell and any model-specific instructions. CASIO warns that using a different battery type can cause malfunction. Its Module 5714 guidance says to leave replacement to the original retailer or an authorized CASIO service center and to request a water-resistance check at the same time: CASIO Module 5714 battery-replacement guidance.
- Locate the model or module marking on the watch or its documentation.
- Open the matching manual through CASIO Support and verify the battery specification and any battery-replacement instructions for that module.
- Before booking service, describe any damage to the case or resin parts; CASIO notes that abnormal or cracked resin components may prevent service.
Choose a replacement route based on water use

CASIO’s general precautions recommend professional battery replacement and inspection. If you are considering DIY, weigh that against the need for tools, model-specific work, and a separate way to confirm water resistance; opening and closing the case alone cannot establish that the watch remains water-tight. Ask about the gasket and water-resistance test
A gasket can age, so ask the service provider to inspect it and say whether replacement is needed. CASIO’s Module 3516 precautions give a general interval of about two or three years for periodic gasket replacement; this is guidance, not a guarantee that every gasket lasts that long. Local service recommendations can differ: CASIO Singapore recommends gasket replacement at least every 18 months on its regional service page. When arranging service, ask directly whether a water-resistance test is included after battery replacement and what the result means for your particular watch. A service center’s offerings and terms may vary by location. CASIO’s Module 5714 manual specifically tells owners to request a water-resistance check, and Module 3516 says a trained technician will inspect the watch for proper water resistance when its battery is replaced.
Understand the watch’s rating after service
CASIO’s US G-SHOCK technology page describes G-SHOCK water resistance as 20 bar and explains bar as a pressure measure. It distinguishes the FROGMAN collection as having ISO-standard 200 m diving water resistance. These are family-level statements, not a substitute for the rating and instructions for your exact model. When to stop using the watch and seek service
- If the case or resin components are cracked or visibly damaged, tell the service provider before work begins; the damage may affect whether service can proceed.
- If you see persistent fogging or moisture inside the watch, stop using it and seek authorized service rather than treating a battery replacement as the fix.
- If the watch has been opened and no water-resistance check has been completed, keep it away from water until an appropriate test confirms its condition.
