There is no reliable flat price for moving from Seattle to Bellevue: inventory, packing, building access and service date matter more than the short distance between the cities. Build a budget from comparable written quotes, then add supplies, address-specific fees, lease cash needs, utilities and a contingency reserve.
What a Seattle-to-Bellevue move may cost
A recent AskSeattle discussion includes one household’s report of paying $1,500 for a three-bedroom Seattle-to-Bellevue move. The household packed its belongings into rented plastic boxes; movers transported the boxes and furniture. Other posts describe smaller local moves, but they vary in scope and timing. These are individual reports, not a market survey, current quote or dependable price range. Do not apply the $1,500 figure to a smaller home, a fully packed move or a home with difficult access. Read the local reports.
To get a useful estimate, inventory rooms and bulky items, note stairs, elevators and truck access at both addresses, and tell each provider what you will pack. Ask for at least three itemized estimates for the same move date and service scope. Compare the estimated total, not only an hourly rate.
What to ask each mover
- Is there an hourly minimum, and how is travel time billed?
- Are there separate truck, mileage, fuel, parking or building charges?
- What packing labor and materials are included?
- What valuation or coverage options and payment fees apply?
- How do the estimate and terms change if inventory, access, date or schedule changes?

Choose a service level that fits the move
Compare the services on the same basis: written total, packing and loading included, schedule flexibility, who drives and handles the goods, storage needs, building access, coverage terms and cancellation or change terms. No available source establishes one option as cheapest for every Seattle-to-Bellevue household.

U-Haul’s Seattle Interbay listing includes trucks, boxes, packing supplies and moving equipment. Its Bellevue plastic-box rental page requires dates and a quantity to show rates. PODS’ Seattle page asks for move details to estimate container needs. U-Pack’s quote tool is another route to a price; its reviewed information does not establish that service or pricing fits this short move. For either container provider, confirm route availability, delivery access and a quote for your addresses and dates.

Keep lease cash separate from moving charges
Moving labor and supplies are not the only cash demand. Budget destination rent, deposit and fees separately from the physical move, and check whether you will owe rent at both homes during a lease overlap. A refundable deposit ties up cash even if it may later be returned, so do not treat it as the same kind of expense as a nonrefundable fee. Check when the outgoing deposit is expected back to identify any temporary funding gap.
Seattle’s renter guidance states: “Security deposit and fees combined cannot exceed one month’s rent.” It also explains limits on nonrefundable move-in fees and installment options for qualifying rental agreements. These are Seattle tenancy rules; do not assume they govern a new Bellevue lease. Ask the Bellevue landlord for an itemized list of charges and confirm the rules that apply to that rental. Confirm utility responsibilities at both addresses
Do not assume utilities work the same way in both buildings. Seattle Public Utilities handles water, sewer and garbage accounts, but a tenant may be responsible for utility charges if the rental agreement says so. Ask each landlord how building utilities are billed, which accounts you must open or close, and when responsibility changes. Seattle’s guidance says to request an underlying bill when required. Washington Department of Revenue’s local rate table for Quarter 4, effective October 1 through December 31, 2026, lists a combined sales and use tax rate of 10.55% for Seattle and 10.30% for Bellevue. These rates concern applicable taxable purchases, such as supplies—not mover rates—and are time- and location-specific. Check the rate for the purchase date and exact address using the state’s local sales and use tax rate table, which advises using its address lookup for a specific location.

Do not add a Seattle street-use permit fee automatically. The city’s 2026 fee guidance reports a 2.6% adjustment to review, inspection, issuance and renewal fees; it is not a general moving-permit charge. Before you commit
- List rooms, bulky items and anything requiring special handling; note stairs, elevators, parking and truck access at both buildings.
- Choose a service scope and move date, then request at least three itemized estimates for that same scope and date.
- Ask about minimum hours, travel time, truck charges, packing, coverage, payment fees, access charges and change or cancellation terms.
- Price supplies and equipment from current, date-specific quotes; verify any container’s route availability, delivery permission and rental period.
- Add lease cash and utility obligations from your actual agreements, keeping deposits, nonrefundable fees and rent overlap distinct from mover charges.
- Set aside a contingency reserve based on your budget and the uncertainties in the estimates.
