The iPhone 18 Pro has the more versatile listed camera system, especially for zoom, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 offers a much larger screen when opened. The camera specifications make the iPhone the clearer choice for photographing distant subjects, but they do not prove which phone takes better photos overall: there is no controlled direct camera comparison of these two models in the sources cited here. Samsung lists the standard Fold8 at 201 grams; an equivalent official iPhone weight is not established here, so a numerical weight comparison would be misleading.
Camera quality: the iPhone has more reach, but no direct quality verdict
Camera megapixels alone do not determine image quality. The practical difference established by the specifications is camera coverage: the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 has wide and ultra-wide rear cameras, while the iPhone 18 Pro adds a dedicated telephoto camera with multiple optical-quality framing options.
| Camera detail | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | iPhone 18 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Rear cameras | 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide (Samsung, 2026) | 48MP main, 48MP ultra-wide, and 48MP telephoto (Apple, 2026) |
| Dedicated telephoto | No dedicated telephoto lens on the standard model (Tom’s Guide) | 4x optical telephoto and 8x optical-quality telephoto framing; Apple lists a 16x overall optical-quality zoom range (Apple, 2026) |
When zoom flexibility matters
For concerts, sports, portraits from farther away, or other situations where moving closer is difficult, the iPhone’s dedicated telephoto hardware gives it the stronger listed camera range. That is a hardware-based advantage, not evidence that it wins every photo comparison.
What the available image-quality evidence can—and cannot—say
There is no controlled, direct Galaxy Z Fold8 versus iPhone 18 Pro camera shootout established here. A TechRadar comparison of the iPhone 18 Pro with the Galaxy S26 Ultra—a different Samsung phone—described both as detailed in good light, with more natural-looking iPhone rendering and more vibrant Samsung rendering. That may illustrate differing image styles in that separate comparison, but it is not a Fold8 result (TechRadar).

Weight: only the Fold8 figure is established here
Samsung lists the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 grams. The company lists the Fold8 Ultra separately at 215 grams; that is a different model and should not be substituted for the standard Fold8 figure (Samsung, 2026). An official iPhone 18 Pro weight is not provided in the cited specifications for this comparison, so these sources do not establish which phone is lighter.
Everyday use: a phone that opens into a larger screen
The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display for use while closed and a 7.6-inch main display when open, according to Samsung’s 2026 specifications (Samsung). The cover display supports phone-style interactions without unfolding; the larger interior display gives more room for reading, browsing, and watching video. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer highlights that wider front display and expansive inner screen as useful in those activities, while noting the missing telephoto as a camera trade-off (Tom’s Guide).

The iPhone 18 Pro is a conventional single-screen phone rather than a device that unfolds into a larger viewing area. That simpler format may suit someone who wants a familiar slab-phone interaction; the Fold8 is the more distinctive option for someone who expects to use a phone-sized screen and a larger reading or viewing canvas on the same device. These are differences in form factor, not a measured usability score.

Samsung specifies an IP48 rating for the standard Fold8 (Samsung, 2026). An IP rating describes tested ingress protection, not a promise that a phone is waterproof or immune to damage. The Fold8 also has a hinge and foldable inner display as part of its design. The sources cited here do not establish a durability comparison or show that either phone lasts longer, so the rating and foldable construction should not be turned into a lifespan claim.
