Use Sony’s built-in Data Transfer to copy supported games, saved data, captures, account information, and console settings from your old PS5 to your PS5 Pro. Start the transfer during the Pro’s initial setup, or later at Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer. Both consoles should be signed in to the same PlayStation account and connected to the same network.
Before you start
- Sign in to the PlayStation account you use on the source PS5. Use that same account on the PS5 Pro.
- Install the latest system software on the source console and sync your trophy information.
- Connect both consoles to the same network. Wi-Fi is supported; Sony says a LAN cable can make the transfer faster when the consoles would otherwise use Wi-Fi. The cable is sold separately.
- Keep both consoles powered on and do not change network settings or run internet connection tests while the transfer is underway. Sony warns that doing so may cause data damage or loss.
Sony does not give a fixed transfer-time estimate. The time depends on the data being moved and your network, so leave both consoles connected until the transfer and any remaining downloads are finished. Sony’s PS4-to-PS5 and PS5-to-PS5 transfer instructions cover the supported process.

Transfer directly to the PS5 Pro
During initial setup
When setting up the PS5 Pro, follow the on-screen instructions to transfer data from your previous PS5. Keep the source console available and powered on when prompted.
After setup is complete
- On the PS5 Pro, open Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer.
- Select Continue, then follow the on-screen prompts to find and select the source PS5.
- When asked, confirm the data to transfer and let the consoles complete the process without interrupting their network connection.
The PS5 Pro restarts automatically. Some items, including game data, may continue transferring after the restart. Sony says games can become playable before the full transfer finishes; check Downloads/Uploads in Control Center for progress.

What transfers—and what does not
Sony’s PS5-to-PS5 transfer list includes:
- User and account information, including login passcodes from the source console
- Saved data for games playable on PS5
- Screenshots and video clips
- Games playable on PS5
- Console settings such as language, login, and power-saving settings
Data already saved on the destination PS5 Pro does not transfer as part of this process. If the Pro already contains data you need, preserve it before proceeding and check the prompts carefully. Sony’s transfer list and instructions describe the included data.
How to get your games onto the Pro
Direct transfer is one way to move game data, but you can also reinstall games or reuse compatible storage. Choose based on what you have available:

Choose a save-transfer method

Use PlayStation Plus cloud storage
PlayStation Plus members can download saved data from cloud storage. Sony documents automatic sync for PS5 games when configured and automatic upload for PS4 games; PS4 cloud saves must be downloaded manually to the PS5 console. On the Pro, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings, choose Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), then use the available sync or download controls. See Sony’s cloud-storage instructions.

Use a USB drive for PS4 saves
To move PS4 saved data without cloud storage, copy it from the source PS5 to a USB drive, then copy it from the drive to the PS5 Pro. This option is for PS4 saves only; it does not copy PS5 saved data. Check for an existing save on the Pro before copying, since the USB save may replace it. Sony’s full backup-and-restore process is separate from direct Data Transfer. Restoring a backup erases data currently saved on the destination console, so do not treat it as a harmless way to add missing items to an already-used Pro. Also, games and apps stored on USB extended storage or an M.2 SSD are excluded from the backup. Read Sony’s backup and restore instructions before using this route.
Before you retire the old PS5
Once you have checked that the Pro has the data you need, Sony recommends backing up data, syncing trophies, and resetting the old console before selling, giving away, or disposing of it. Follow Sony’s console transfer and disposal guidance before handing it over.
