Choose the save-transfer method for your devices

These are distinct systems. Steam describes Cloud as storage for saves and other per-user data in supported games, and supports cloud integration across operating systems. That makes Steam Cloud relevant to the Steam edition, but does not guarantee every sync scenario will succeed. The game’s cross-progression has its own account-linking steps; it is not a substitute for Steam Cloud between Steam installations, and Steam Cloud alone is not the documented method for sending a save to a console. Transfer a save with The Witcher 3 cross-progression
CD PROJEKT RED’s support instructions say to use the latest game patch, link a CD PROJEKT RED account, create a save, and connect the destination platform to that same account. The newly created save should show a cloud icon when uploaded.
- Update the game. Install the latest patch. The version appears beneath the game title on the main menu.
- Open the cross-progression control. From the main menu, choose Load Game, then select Cross Progression at the lower right.
- Link your account. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the game to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Check the setting. Linking enables cross-progression by default. You can turn it on or off at Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression.
- Create a new save. The publisher says a newly created save uploads automatically. Look for the cloud icon beside its name.
- Link the destination platform. On that platform, open My Rewards and connect it to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Load the transferred save. Return to Load Game on the destination platform and look for the uploaded save.
CD PROJEKT RED Support describes the result this way: “Your latest saves will be automatically uploaded to the cloud so you can easily pick up where you left off on other platforms.” Read the publisher’s cross-progression instructions.

If your save does not appear
First identify which system should be carrying the save. A Steam-to-Steam transfer depends on Steam Cloud; a transfer between Steam and another platform depends on the game’s cross-progression and account link. Treating one as a fix for the other can send you down the wrong troubleshooting path.
- For Steam Deck and Steam PC: Check Steam’s Cloud status and wait for the sync to finish before opening the game on the other device. The available documentation establishes that Steam Cloud is supported, not that every conflict or failed sync has the same cause or resolution.
- For cross-progression: Confirm the game is updated, the feature is enabled, both platforms are linked to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, and the save you expect to transfer was created after setup. Check for its cloud icon on the source and look for it under Load Game on the destination.
The available instructions do not establish a universal fix for account errors or conflicting saves, nor do they specify which save takes precedence in every conflict. Patch 4.03 notes dated May 11, 2023 recorded fixes for some cross-progression loading issues on multiple machines using the same GOG account; that note is not evidence of a current Steam Deck bug or a blanket fix for all platforms. CD PROJEKT RED announced on March 11, 2022 that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was Steam Deck Verified. The company also described the game as Verified in investor materials dated March 29, 2024. Those statements confirm the status on those dates, not the live store rating on October 4, 2026.
Valve defines Verified as working well on Steam Deck by default, alongside the separate Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown categories. Valve also says compatibility ratings are subject to ongoing review and that changes to Steam Deck can improve support over time. Check the game’s current Steam store listing for its present badge rather than treating a past announcement as current.
