As of October 4, 2026, Thunderbird for iOS is still in development, so there are no verified instructions for changing notification, privacy, or sync settings in a released iPhone or iPad app. Mozilla says it will announce the app when it is ready for users; don’t rely on desktop or Android menus as iOS instructions.
Is Thunderbird available for iOS or iPhone?
Mozilla’s Thunderbird FAQ says: “Thunderbird for iOS development (for iPhone and iPad) is in progress! When it is ready for users there will be a public announcement.” The FAQ was last updated June 23, 2026. Read the Thunderbird FAQ.

The Thunderbird Blog described a native iPhone email app being built from scratch on October 1, 2026, with work focused on core foundations. It did not provide a release date or document a settings workflow. Read the October 2026 iOS update.
The official Thunderbird for iOS repository describes the project as “Not yet functional or ready for production use.” It says the current goal is a TestFlight version for early testing, with a full App Store release at a later stage. That is a development sequence, not a confirmed public release date.

The public iOS roadmap, last updated July 23, 2026, lists IMAP and a first user release among current priorities. It is a roadmap, not a final feature list or launch commitment.
Can you change notification settings in Thunderbird for iOS?
There is no verified public iOS procedure for changing notification settings in a released Thunderbird app. A July 2026 mobile progress report said the team had heard that notification setup and “push” (IMAP Idle) notifications were difficult, and was discussing ways to consolidate some settings and bring others forward. It also described a plan to activate push notifications by default for new accounts that support them. The report also notes that push depends in part on whether the email account’s provider or server supports it. A plan for supported accounts should not be read as a promise of push delivery for every provider.
Can you change privacy settings in Thunderbird for iOS?
The official material available does not establish privacy controls or their location in a released Thunderbird iOS app. Thunderbird’s privacy resources discuss topics such as remote message content, passwords, and encryption, but they do not verify that the corresponding desktop controls exist in an iOS settings screen. Do not follow desktop Thunderbird preferences or settings for Firefox on iOS as if they were instructions for Thunderbird on iPhone or iPad. They cover different products or platforms and do not establish the iOS app’s controls.

The roadmap identifies IMAP as a development priority, and the project repository describes core architecture and backend integration as ongoing work. These sources do not document an end-user sync-settings menu, which data categories it might control, or whether app settings would sync between devices.

Mail synchronization and syncing app configuration are different questions: IMAP concerns mail and account communication, while app-settings sync would concern preferences across devices. The official materials reviewed do not specify either an iOS settings path or cross-device settings behavior. The project repository and the iOS roadmap describe development priorities, not a user-facing setup guide.

What to do while the iOS app is in development
- Check the Thunderbird FAQ and official project updates for an announcement that the app is ready for users.
- After release, use instructions published specifically for Thunderbird on iOS. Confirm that the guide matches the app version and the control you need before changing settings.
- If considering a TestFlight build, treat it as early testing rather than a production-ready release; the repository describes TestFlight as a goal for early testing.
