In the U.S., the Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299. Choose Pro if you want the announced Pro camera features at the lower entry price; choose Pro Max if you value Apple’s battery-life positioning and prefer a larger phone. If you specifically want the standard model, wait for Apple to publish its specifications and price.
Which iPhone 18 models can you buy now?
Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026. Preorders began September 12, with availability from September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions; Apple said availability would expand to 20 additional countries and regions on September 25. The U.S. launch prices are $1,199 for Pro and $1,299 for Pro Max. Prices and availability vary by market and may change. Apple’s announcement and Associated Press coverage report the launch details.
Apple has not established the standard iPhone 18’s features, price, or release date in the official sources reviewed. MacRumors reported on August 28, 2026, that a spring 2027 launch was expected; that is a reported schedule, not an Apple-confirmed date. MacRumors’ iPhone 18 roundup is a secondary source, and rumored specifications should not be treated as final.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro if you want the lower-cost Pro
The Pro is the more straightforward choice if you want the announced Pro-line camera capabilities but would rather pay the lower starting price. It begins at $1,199 in the U.S., $100 below Pro Max, and is offered in the same listed storage tiers. Choose storage based on how much space you expect to need for photos, video, apps, and other files rather than assuming the base capacity will suit everyone.
Apple says the 48MP Fusion Main camera introduces variable aperture to iPhone and offers more creative control. That may matter to people who deliberately adjust how they shoot; it is not a reason every buyer needs a Pro phone. Apple also lists A20 Pro, a vapor chamber, and a smaller Dynamic Island among the Pro-line changes. These are manufacturer-announced features, not independent measurements of real-world gains.

Apple Support lists the Pro display at 6.27 inches when measured as a standard rectangle, noting that the actual viewable area is smaller. Use the phone’s overall size and handling as a personal decision factor: a smaller Pro may be preferable if you want a more manageable device, but this is not a hands-on comfort assessment.
Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if battery positioning and a larger phone matter more
Pro Max starts at $1,299 in the U.S., a $100 premium over Pro at the entry configurations. Apple positions it as delivering the largest increase in battery life ever on iPhone. That is Apple’s claim, not an independently verified battery-life result; actual endurance depends on how a phone is used.

Consider the Pro Max if you prioritize more viewing area and are comfortable carrying and handling a larger phone. The cited Apple Support excerpt establishes the Pro’s screen measurement but not a verified Pro Max diagonal, so consult Apple’s Pro Max specifications for its precise figure before comparing screen sizes. Both models offer the same listed storage options, so the extra entry cost is not buying a higher base storage tier.
Should you wait for the standard iPhone 18?
Wait if the standard model is the one you want or if your purchase depends on knowing its price and specifications. Apple has not confirmed those details in the official material cited here. A spring 2027 release is an expectation reported by MacRumors, not a guaranteed launch date. Once Apple announces the standard phone, compare its official price, features, and availability with the Pro models then on sale.
