The right Phone Link alternative depends on what you want to do. For built-in access to selected Android or iPhone features, check whether Phone Link already supports your phone. For broader cross-device tools, consider KDE Connect; for sending files between nearby devices, LocalSend is the more focused choice. Neither is a feature-for-feature replacement for Phone Link.
Which Phone Link alternative fits your needs?
| Option | Best fit | Platforms documented | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Phone Link | Access selected phone features from Windows without adding a separate integration app. | Android and iPhone, with different requirements and capabilities. | Features depend on phone, operating system, permissions, and rollout. Android phone-screen access is limited to select devices and markets. |
| KDE Connect | Cross-device interaction such as notifications, file transfers, and opening links on another device. | Windows, Android, and iOS downloads are listed by KDE. | Check current documentation for your exact platform combination; feature availability is not necessarily identical across operating systems. |
| LocalSend | Nearby file transfers between devices. | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. | It is a file-sharing tool, not a complete phone-integration suite. |
Check Phone Link before switching
Phone Link has different capabilities on Android and iPhone. Microsoft lists Android messages, recent photos, calls, notifications, and access to apps on supported devices. Its iPhone feature set includes messages, calls, and notifications. Exact availability depends on compatibility, permissions, and rollout. See Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup.
Android requirements and limitations
Microsoft’s documented Android setup generally requires Android 10 or later, a compatible phone, and the PC and phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Microsoft also says Phone Link does not currently support multiple Android profiles or work or school accounts. If you use a managed account or separate Android profile, verify that constraint before troubleshooting a failed pairing.
iPhone requirements and permissions
For iPhone pairing, Microsoft lists iOS 16 or later and Bluetooth Low Energy support on the PC. Calls, messages, and notifications depend on pairing and granting relevant permissions. Microsoft warns that granting message access can make sensitive content, including two-factor authentication SMS messages, visible in Phone Link; consider that when choosing which permissions to enable.

Choose KDE Connect for broader cross-device interaction
KDE Connect describes features including notification synchronization, file transfers, remote browsing of phone files, and opening links on another device. KDE lists downloads for Windows, Android, and iOS, making it a candidate if you want more than a one-purpose transfer utility.
Do not assume every listed feature works the same way across Windows, Android, and iOS. Check KDE’s current platform documentation for the devices you intend to pair and the specific action you need.

Decide based on the task you need to complete
- Need calls, messages, notifications, or supported Android app access? Check Phone Link’s support for your exact phone and operating system first.
- Want several kinds of interaction across a mix of devices? Evaluate KDE Connect, then confirm the specific feature on each platform.
- Only need to send files nearby? Try LocalSend; it is purpose-built for local-network file sharing.
- Need phone-screen mirroring? Check Microsoft’s supported-device and market information before relying on it. Phone screen is an Android feature for select markets and Android 10 or later devices with Link to Windows preinstalled; the PC and phone connect over Wi-Fi. Details are in Microsoft’s phone-screen setup documentation.
Know Phone Link’s file-transfer options and prerequisites
Microsoft documents a file-sharing workflow for Windows 11 and Android 10 or later that requires Link to Windows version 1.24032.518.0 or later and Phone Link version 1.24032.156.0 or later. The workflow has constraints: files must be saved locally, some items or transfers are restricted, and the Phone Link window must remain open during drag-and-drop. Review Microsoft’s file-transfer instructions for the current steps and limitations.
Microsoft also documents access to Android phone files from Windows File Explorer after pairing. Requirements may vary, so check the current File Explorer phone setup page before treating it as available on every phone.

Other Windows integration and lifecycle details
Microsoft says mobile-device integration in the Start menu is gradually rolling out. The documented Android and iPhone features include some combination of messages, calls, photos or recent activities, and file sending; availability depends on rollout. See Microsoft’s Start menu mobile-device documentation.
If your PC still runs Windows 10, changing phone-connection apps does not change the operating system’s support status. Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; free software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes through Windows Update have ended. The notice appears in Microsoft’s support information.
