You can install an M.2 E-Key Wi-Fi card in a desktop PC only if the motherboard supports that exact wireless module and interface. Check the motherboard manual before opening the case: a Key E socket is not interchangeable with an M.2 storage socket, and some CNVi modules fit a standard Key E socket but will not work unless the system supports CNVi.
Check compatibility before buying or installing
Find the exact motherboard model, then check its manual or manufacturer support page for a wireless M.2 Key E socket and support for the card’s interface. Do not assume that a module will work simply because its notch fits.
In particular, Intel explains that CNVi companion RF (CRF) modules can physically fit a standard M.2 Key E socket but work only in a system designed for CNVi. See Intel’s CNVi and CRF compatibility explanation and guidance on using a CNVi slot for generic M.2 modules. If the board documentation does not make support clear, ask the motherboard or system manufacturer before purchasing.
Gather a complete, compatible kit
A desktop installation may require more than the wireless module. Confirm you have the card, antenna leads, antennas, a case bracket or other mounting arrangement, and the necessary mounting screw. Check that the antenna connectors and bracket suit the card and case.

- M.2 Key E to PCIe X1 WiFi Bluetooth adapter with SMA Antenna Kits, work with NGFF M.2 WiFi module, as well as Coral TPU (M.2 Accelerator A+E key)
- The WiFi signal goes through the PCIe X1 interface, and the Bluetooth signal goes through the USB interface (To enable Bluetooth: The USB cable needs to connect with the motherboard USB port)
- Triple Band 2.4GHz 5GHz 6GHz Antenna: 6 dBi RP-SMA Male antenna, with 2 x 15cm U.FL/IPEX4 to RP-SMA Female pigtail cable
- Compatible with BE200NGW, AX210NGW, AX200NGW, 9260NGW, 8265NGW, 8260NGW, 7265NGW, 7260NGW, and Broadcom, Realtek, Atheros NGFF M.2 2230 Interface (Key E/A+E) WiFi module. Support WiFi 4/5/6/6E/7, Bluetooth 4.0/4.1/4.2/5.0/5.1/5.2/5.3/5.4
- To be noted: can not work with M.2 CNVio2/CNVio interface WiFi module, such as intel AX211NGW, AX201NGW, AC 9560NGW, AC 9462NGW, AC 9461NGW, etc. Not support Mini PCIe WiFi module.
One documented example is Intel’s Wi-Fi 6 AX200 desktop kit. Intel lists the adapter, two external antennas, standard and low-profile brackets, preinstalled RF cables, and an installation guide; its stated motherboard requirement is an M.2 Key E 2230 socket. These kit contents do not establish compatibility with every motherboard. See Intel’s AX200 desktop kit contents and requirements.
Intel also documents an AX210 (Gig+) IOT kit with two antennas and brackets that requires an available M.2 2230 Key E wireless connector. That is a kit-specific requirement, not proof that any AX210 module will work in any desktop. See Intel’s AX210 IOT kit requirements.

Install the card and antenna assembly
- Shut down and unplug the PC. Follow the computer and motherboard instructions to open the case safely.
- Locate the wireless socket. Use the motherboard manual to identify the M.2 Key E wireless socket. Do not use a Key M or Key B storage socket as a substitute.
- Insert and secure the module. Follow the orientation and fastening instructions for the specific motherboard and card. Intel’s AX200 desktop kit integration guide illustrates module and desktop-bracket installation; other boards and kits may differ.
- Connect the antenna leads carefully. The small RF connectors press onto the matching receptacles on the card. They are not screw-on connectors. Align each plug with its socket and press gently; do not force or twist it. Intel notes that RF plug choice must account for fit, mating height, and cable diameter. See Intel’s antenna connector guidance.
- Mount and route the antennas. Attach the antenna leads to the included or confirmed-compatible antennas and case bracket, then route the cables without pinching them. Use the kit’s guide for the bracket and cable arrangement.
- Close the case and start the PC. Install the correct Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers for the adapter and operating system.
Verify Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the operating system
After driver installation, check the operating system’s device list for both the Wi-Fi adapter and Bluetooth device. Intel’s integration guide includes a driver step and a Device Manager verification view. If one or both devices are missing, revisit compatibility first, then check that the card and antenna leads are seated and that the appropriate drivers are installed.

- Neither device appears: confirm the motherboard supports the module’s interface, especially if it is a CNVi/CRF card, and check that the card is seated in the correct wireless socket.
- Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is missing: confirm you installed the appropriate driver for that function and operating system; verify both entries in the device list.
- An antenna lead will not seat: stop rather than forcing it. Connector fit, mating height, and cable diameter matter; verify the exact connector type for the card.
