Before you download: identify the type of PS Plus game
Monthly Games and Game Catalog games are separate benefits with different access rules. PlayStation describes monthly games as “games available for you to download and play at no extra cost during your PlayStation Plus membership.” The membership must be active to play them.

PlayStation’s [membership comparison] lists Monthly Games for all three tiers and the Game Catalog for Extra and Premium. It lists the Classics Catalog and cloud streaming as Premium benefits. Benefits and title availability should be verified in your local service.
How to download monthly games on PS5
- From the PS5 Games home screen, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
- Open the Benefits tab and select Monthly Games.
- Highlight the game you want and select Download.
PlayStation’s [monthly games instructions] explain that these titles are available to download and play during an active membership. The games shown in your local interface are the ones to use for current availability.

Where to find monthly games on PS4
- From the PS4 function screen, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
- Select Monthly Games.
- Highlight the game, then choose Add to Library > Download.
Adding a title to your library and downloading it are separate menu actions on this PS4 route. Follow the on-screen options for the game currently displayed.
Download a Game Catalog title on PS5 or PS4
First confirm that your membership is Extra or Premium; Essential does not include the Game Catalog. Then use the route for your console:

PS5
- From Games home, open PlayStation Plus.
- Go to Benefits > Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible game and choose Download.
PS4
- From the function screen, open PlayStation Plus.
- Choose Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible game and choose Download.
PlayStation’s [Game Catalog guide] describes catalog access and downloading. Downloaded Plus games can also be found in Game Library; the subscription-specific route above helps you confirm that the title is currently included for your plan and region.
What happens after you select Download?
The console downloads and installs the game automatically. Depending on the title, you may be able to start playing a portion before the full download finishes. For general Store downloads, PlayStation directs PS5 users to Game Library > Your Collection, and PS4 users to Library > Purchased; select a game and choose Download. For a Plus title, use Monthly Games or Game Catalog first to check its subscription eligibility. See [PlayStation’s download instructions].

Start a download remotely
You can initiate a download from a web browser or the PlayStation App. The console and account need to be set up for remote downloads to work as expected:
- For PS5, the console must be logged into the account used to request the download. For PS4, the console must be activated as that account’s primary PS4.
- For downloads from the PlayStation App, the console must be linked to the app.
- Automatic downloads must be configured for a remote request to start immediately. Otherwise, the download begins the next time the console is turned on.

Download or stream a game?
Downloading installs the game locally; streaming plays an eligible title without downloading it and can avoid using console storage for the game. Streaming is a separate option, not a required step for installation. It is limited to eligible titles and requires the appropriate membership; check the title page and your regional service to see whether Stream is offered.

PlayStation’s U.S. [Game Catalog support page] lists 5 Mbps as the minimum broadband speed for catalog streaming and 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming; the game must support 1080p, and resolution may fall if the connection drops below that speed. Its [PS5 cloud streaming page] specifies minimum upload and download speeds of 5 Mbps for that service. These are requirements stated on separate PlayStation pages, not a guarantee of performance; check current local requirements and the individual game’s streaming availability.

Moving between streamed and downloaded play
Save data does not automatically transfer between streamed and downloaded versions of a game. PlayStation says downloaded saves are stored on the console, while streamed save data is stored on PlayStation. Moving save data between the two play types requires cloud-storage steps. See [PlayStation’s saved-data transfer instructions] before switching if you need the same progress in both versions.

Why a PS Plus game may not appear or download
- You are looking in the wrong section. Check Monthly Games for monthly titles and Game Catalog for catalog titles; they are separate listings.
- Your plan does not include that benefit. Monthly Games are listed for Essential, Extra, and Premium, while the Game Catalog requires Extra or Premium.
- The title is not currently available in your region or catalog. Catalog availability can change. Check the game’s current listing in your local PlayStation service.
- Your membership is inactive. Monthly games require an active membership to play.
- You requested a remote download, but console setup is incomplete. Check the account, primary-console or app-link requirements, and automatic-download settings described above.
