Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no single winner across Panasonic TOUGHBOOK, Getac and Dell Rugged. Choose by the job’s form factor, hazards, screen and input needs, battery plan, required ports and accessories—not by brand name alone. The product examples below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not results from an independent head-to-head test; confirm the exact regional model and configuration before buying.
Start with the form factor and the field job
Decide how the computer will be carried or mounted before comparing specifications. A tablet suits work that depends on handheld use, touch or a compact vehicle mount. A laptop may be a better fit when workers need a built-in keyboard and a larger display. A detachable can bridge the two, but its keyboard and expansion options may be separate accessories.
Then define the actual operating conditions: exposure to dust or water, drops, vibration, temperature extremes, electromagnetic interference, and any regulated hazardous-location requirements. Convert those conditions into requirements for the device and its configuration. An IP rating or military-standard test listing is not a blanket guarantee that a computer will survive every field incident.
Model-level comparison
These examples represent different device types and configurations, so they are useful starting points rather than a like-for-like ranking. Specifications below are attributed to the named manufacturers; verify the current local product page and quoted SKU.

| Dell Rugged family | Dell’s family page spans Latitude and Dell Pro Rugged laptops and tablets; exact size and features depend on the named model. | Not stated as one family-wide rating; check the specific model page. | Dell lists accessories including vehicle docks, scanners, handles, straps and extended I/O modules. Compatibility depends on model and generation. |
The brightness numbers are manufacturer specifications, not measurements from a common sunlight test. Dell’s family-level feature descriptions should not be treated as specifications for every Dell rugged device.
Match protection to the hazards you must manage
The named Panasonic and Getac examples list MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G, but their listed ingress ratings differ: IP65 for the TOUGHBOOK G2 and Latitude 7230, and IP66 for the TOUGHBOOK 40, UX10 and B360. These labels alone do not establish which device is suitable for a particular site. Ask the vendor to document the test or certification required by your procurement standard and confirm it applies to the exact configuration being quoted.

If work takes place in a regulated hazardous area, do not infer suitability from a general rugged rating. Getac identifies a Class I, Division 2 B360 configuration as an option. Panasonic’s cited product pages also describe optional hazardous-location configurations, but the precise applicable model and approval must be confirmed with the regional supplier.
Check usability outdoors and with protective equipment
Screen brightness is only one part of outdoor readability. Check glare treatment, viewing angle, aspect ratio, screen size and whether workers can reliably operate the display in rain or with the gloves used on site. Panasonic describes gloved touch for the cited G2 and TOUGHBOOK 40; Getac describes the UX10 as multi-touch and the B360 as usable by finger, stylus or gloved input. Try the actual interface and accessories with the intended gloves before standardizing a fleet.

For pen-based forms, maps or signatures, verify that the quoted screen includes the required digitizer or stylus support. For vehicle-mounted work, test the display position and touch targets from the seated position, not just at a desk.
Plan for a full shift, a second shift and vehicle use
Battery figures are not directly comparable when their benchmark methods differ. Panasonic’s G2 figure is listed under MobileMark 2025, while the TOUGHBOOK 40 figure is listed under MobileMark 30. Neither guarantees runtime for a workload involving high screen brightness, cellular connections, scanning or continuous navigation. If uptime is critical, run a representative workload on the intended configuration and establish a spare-battery and charging plan.

Ask how batteries are changed or bridged during operation, which spare batteries and chargers are compatible, and whether expansion modules occupy space or ports you also need. Getac lists an optional bridge battery for UX10 and swappable battery technology for B360; Panasonic lists modular expansion for G2 and an optional second battery for TOUGHBOOK 40. Confirm each option is included in the proposed SKU rather than assuming it is standard.
Vehicle docks and accessories can determine whether a device fits an existing deployment. Panasonic, Getac and Dell list accessories or expansion options across the cited product materials, but that does not establish cross-generation or cross-model compatibility. Have the supplier validate the exact computer, dock, power supply and peripherals as a complete system.

Compare ports, wireless and fleet requirements on the quote
List the connections required by the workflow before choosing a configuration: for example, serial or other legacy I/O, barcode or RFID equipment, wired networking, external displays, GPS or cellular connectivity. Manufacturers may offer these through optional modules, and options can be mutually exclusive. Compare the ports and radios on the exact orderable SKU, not the broadest list of family options.
Apply the same discipline to security and fleet management. Match requirements such as smart-card or fingerprint authentication, TPM, remote management, cellular choices and support policies against the configuration and service terms offered in your region. The manufacturer family pages describe capabilities and options, but they do not establish that every capability is available in every country or SKU.
Use this procurement checklist before selecting a winner
- Name the device type and model. Specify tablet, laptop or detachable, along with screen size and the keyboard or dock required for the work.
- Write down the hazards and approvals. State the required ingress, drop, temperature, vibration, electromagnetic and hazardous-location criteria; request documentation for the exact quoted configuration.
- Test the actual field workflow. Check readability in expected lighting, operation with work gloves, stylus use if needed, and the ports and peripherals workers rely on.
- Validate shift continuity. Test runtime with representative applications and connections, and confirm spare batteries, hot-swap or bridge behavior, and charging equipment.
- Confirm system compatibility. Get written confirmation for docks, vehicle mounts, power accessories, scanners and expansion modules by model and generation.
- Compare regional quotes and support terms. Verify orderable SKU, local availability, warranty, repair and service arrangements, deployment spares and current price with the regional vendor.
Current local price, inventory, full cross-generation dock compatibility and a neutral total-cost comparison are not established by the cited manufacturer materials. Those details can change the shortlist, so obtain them for the intended deployment rather than relying on family-level listings.
