A comfortable, clear VR view depends on three separate things: where the headband sits, how firmly it holds, and—on headsets with separate controls—how close the visor is and how far apart the lenses are. Controls vary by model, so use the steps for your headset; the walkthrough below is specifically for PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2).
Before adjusting your headset
- Check your headset’s manufacturer instructions first. Button names and adjustment mechanisms differ across models; the steps below should not be assumed to apply to every VR headset.
- For PS VR2, clean the lenses before putting the headset on. Keep hair clear of the lenses while positioning it.
- If you wear glasses, check the guidance for your headset. Sony says PS VR2 can be worn with glasses, although unusually wide or shaped frames may not fit.
How to adjust PS VR2 fit and lens position
- Move the scope outward. Press the scope adjustment button and pull the scope fully away from your face.
- Set the headband on your head. Press the rear headband release button, pull the headband back, and position it over the lower back of your head. Sony advises keeping it close to your ears; wearing it high can make the headset unstable. See Sony’s PS VR2 setup and adjustment guide.
- Tighten only enough to hold position. Turn the headband adjustment dial clockwise until the band is secure and locks in place. If it is too tight, press the release button to loosen it. Aim for a stable fit, not maximum tension.
- Bring the scope toward your face. Press the scope adjustment button and move the scope closer. PS VR2’s stated scope adjustment range is 59–72 mm; this is the scope’s adjustment range, not a measurement of your personal interpupillary distance. - Adjust lens spacing separately. Turn the lens adjustment dial to change the distance between the lenses. This is a different control from moving the scope closer to or farther from your face.
- Center your view using the PS5 visibility setup. Open the PlayStation VR2 card in Control Center, choose Adjust Visibility, and follow the on-screen directions. Move the headset up, down, left, or right until your eyes sit in the middle of the lenses and the screen looks clear; then tighten the headband dial to secure that position. Sony’s setup guide provides the model-specific instructions.
How tight should the head strap be?
Tighten the strap just enough to keep the headset from shifting during use. Excess pressure is not a substitute for correct placement: reposition the headband and scope before tightening further. Sony gives the same principle for the original PlayStation VR, advising users to tighten only enough to stop movement without making the band feel too tight in its original PS VR quick start guide.
Glasses, blur, or discomfort
Wearing glasses
Sony says PS VR2 can be worn with glasses, but unusually wide or shaped frames may not fit. For the original PS VR, move the scope slowly and avoid letting glasses touch the headset lenses: contact can damage the glasses or headset lenses. Follow the instructions for your specific model; the original PS VR guidance is in Sony’s quick start guide.
If the image remains blurry or the headset is uncomfortable
Recheck that the headset is seated securely, your eyes are centered in the lenses, and you have used the controls intended for scope position and lens spacing. If those adjustments do not help, consult the manufacturer’s support instructions for your exact headset model. There is no single adjustment sequence or troubleshooting procedure established here for all VR headsets.
