Before buying, confirm that the exact camera model supports HomeKit Secure Video recording—not just Apple Home control—and that its power, mounting, Wi-Fi and field of view suit the place you plan to install it. Then check your iCloud+ camera limit: Apple currently lists one camera on the 50 GB plan, up to five on 200 GB, and unlimited cameras on 2 TB and above.
Confirm the exact model supports HomeKit Secure Video
HomeKit compatibility by itself does not establish that a camera can record with HomeKit Secure Video. Before purchasing, check the exact model against Apple’s Home accessories listing and the manufacturer’s current documentation. Product names can cover multiple models or regional variants, so verify the model number rather than relying on a family name or a general “works with Apple Home” claim.
HomeKit Secure Video requires an Apple home setup and an iCloud+ subscription. The Home app supports camera recording and remote viewing; compatibility and network requirements still need to be checked for the particular camera and installation.
Check your iCloud+ camera limit and recording window
Apple’s current support documentation says HomeKit Secure Video activity is available for the last 10 days. Recordings do not count against the iCloud storage limit. The number of cameras supported depends on the iCloud+ plan:

Match the camera to its installation location
A camera that does not suit the intended location can be a poor fit regardless of its headline resolution. Check the following against the manufacturer’s documentation and the room or exterior area you need to cover:

The Aqara Camera G100 requires a power adapter with DC 5V/1A output which is not included in the box. Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
- Power and cable reach: Confirm whether the camera uses a plug-in power adapter, existing wiring or another power source, and whether the cable reaches a suitable outlet or connection point.
- Indoor or outdoor rating: Use a model documented for the environment where it will be mounted. Confirm the required mounting arrangement and any installation conditions.
- Field of view: Compare the camera’s stated coverage angle with the scene you need to see. A wide angle may cover more area, but placement and obstructions still affect the view.
- Night vision: Check the stated night-vision type and range against the distance and lighting conditions at the installation point. Published specifications are not directly comparable test results.
- Wi-Fi band and setup: Verify that the supported Wi-Fi band and setup requirements work with your router and the signal available where the camera will sit.
- Detection and controls: Look for motion detection or sensors, lighting, motion zones, and physical or software privacy controls that match how you intend to use the camera.
Use product specifications as fit checks, not test results
Logitech Circle View: wired coverage
Apple lists Logitech Circle View as compatible with HomeKit Secure Video. Its Apple Store listing specifies 1080p video, a 180-degree diagonal field of view, infrared night vision up to 15 feet, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a tethered 10-foot power cable. The listing also describes a privacy control that tilts the camera down and a rear button to disable streaming and recording. These are product-listing specifications, not independent measurements of image quality or reliability.
Eve Outdoor Cam: hardwired outdoor installation
Eve’s Outdoor Cam manual says the camera requires both neutral and ground wires at the installation point; without them, that location is incompatible. The manual also describes an integrated floodlight and dedicated motion sensor, and says the camera exclusively supports HomeKit Secure Video and requires iCloud+ for secure recording. Confirm the manual applies to the exact model and regional variant. Use a qualified installer where electrical work requires one.

Understand the privacy model and its limits
Apple says the home hub analyzes incoming camera clips locally to determine whether an event should be recorded. Its security documentation describes clips being encrypted before upload and related iCloud data being protected with end-to-end encryption. Camera streams are encrypted between the camera and Apple devices; remote streams may be relayed through the home hub.
That describes Apple’s documented platform architecture, not an independent audit of a specific camera or household network. Camera placement, account sharing, home-network configuration and device security remain relevant. Aim cameras to cover the intended approach while limiting views into private spaces, and review which household members can access camera views and recordings. The sources cited here do not establish a universal legal rule for camera placement.

Make the decision with a final compatibility checklist
- Verify HomeKit Secure Video support for the exact model, not merely HomeKit control.
- Confirm power source, cable reach, wiring and mounting fit the intended location.
- Check field of view and night-vision specifications against the scene to cover.
- Match the camera’s Wi-Fi requirements to the router and signal at the installation point.
- Check the iCloud+ plan’s camera limit and the 10-day activity history.
- Review privacy controls, camera placement and household access permissions.
Apple’s and manufacturers’ published specifications can help rule cameras in or out for a particular setup. They do not establish which camera is most reliable, produces the best image or sends the most accurate alerts; the available sources do not provide controlled, independent comparisons of those measures.
