To check whether an RTX 5080 will work in your PC, compare the exact card model’s dimensions with the usable space in your case, then verify that your power supply meets the card maker’s wattage and connector requirements. NVIDIA’s Founders Edition is 304 × 137 × 61 mm and its guide specifies an 850 W minimum system power supply, but partner cards can have different dimensions. A match on length or wattage alone does not establish compatibility.

1. Identify the exact RTX 5080 model

“RTX 5080” identifies the GPU, not the size of every card built around it. Before measuring your case or assessing your PSU, find the manufacturer, full product name and SKU of the card you plan to use. Check that card maker’s current specification sheet and installation instructions; use those dimensions and requirements rather than assuming the Founders Edition specifications apply.

For comparison, NVIDIA specifies clearance for its Founders Edition at 304 mm long, 137 mm wide and 61 mm high. Partner-card examples listed on NVIDIA’s SFF-Ready page differ: ASUS PRIME is 126 × 304 × 50 mm, MSI INSPIRE 3X is 112 × 288 × 50 mm, and GIGABYTE WINDFORCE SFF is 126 × 304 × 50 mm. The manufacturers’ dimensions use their stated measurement conventions, so confirm how the exact card’s sheet defines width, height and thickness before comparing it with the case. See the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 User Guide and NVIDIA’s SFF-Ready overview.

2. Check the case against the installed configuration

Use the case manufacturer’s manual or specifications to find GPU clearance, then determine the space actually available in your build. The quoted maximum may change when front fans, a radiator, a drive cage or other components are installed. Measure the open space along the card’s length and check clearance for its height, thickness and power connector—not just whether the card body appears short enough.

ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. System Requirements: Minimum 850W PSU with 16-pin 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector required. Verify before purchasing. OC mode: 2685 MHz/ Default mode: 2655 MHz (Boost Clock)
  • SFF-Ready enthusiast GeForce card compatible with small-form-factor builds
  • Axial-tech fans feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • Vapor chamber ensures efficient heat transfer for lower GPU temps
  • Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
  • Length: Compare the exact card length with the usable GPU length in your case as configured, including any front-mounted cooling hardware or cages that occupy that space.
  • Thickness and slots: Check the card’s thickness or occupied expansion slots against the case’s available slot area and nearby components.
  • Height and cable route: Check the card’s height and the location of its power connector. Allow room for the cable to reach and route without being forced against the side panel.
  • Airflow: NVIDIA recommends “One additional slot clearance in front of the fans … for better airflow” for the Founders Edition. Treat this as an airflow recommendation, not as a universal dimension for every partner card.

There is no single cable-bend clearance measurement in NVIDIA’s Founders Edition dimensions that applies to every card and case. Check the exact card and case documentation, and do not close the panel by pressing on a power cable.

3. Understand what SFF-Ready does—and does not—tell you

NVIDIA’s SFF-Ready guideline is a useful, specific compatibility route when both the card and case are identified as compatible under it. Its limits are 304 mm maximum length, 50 mm (2.5 slots) maximum depth and 151 mm maximum height, with the height limit including power-cable bend radius. These are guideline limits for labelled SFF-Ready products, not universal RTX 5080 or case clearances. Do not assume an unlabelled card or case follows them; use its own specifications instead. NVIDIA explains the SFF-Ready guideline here.

4. Verify the PSU wattage and cables

NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 User Guide specifies an 850 W minimum system PSU rating for the guide’s setup. It lists two supported power arrangements: at least three PCIe 8-pin cables connected through the RTX 5080 adapter, or one PCIe Gen 5 16-pin cable rated for 450 W or greater. Confirm the exact card’s instructions and your PSU’s own documentation and cable set. An 850 W label by itself does not prove that the PSU has the required cabling or connector arrangement. NVIDIA’s figure is not a universal recommendation for every system configuration; follow the relevant manufacturers’ instructions. Read the RTX 5080 User Guide.

5. Complete the check before buying or powering on

  1. Write down the exact card SKU. Get its dimensions, connector location and power instructions from the card manufacturer.
  2. Check the case’s real clearance. Compare the card with the manual’s GPU limits and account for the fans, radiator, cages and other parts installed in your build.
  3. Check all physical dimensions. Confirm length, height, thickness or slot occupancy, and a safe path for the power cable with the side panel in place.
  4. Check the PSU itself. Verify its rated wattage and the actual supported cables against the card maker’s requirements and NVIDIA’s listed arrangements.
  5. After installation, inspect the power connection before switching on. NVIDIA says to seat the adapter connection securely and connect the required dedicated PCIe 8-pin cables when using the adapter. Ensure the plug is fully inserted and flush against the receptacle; do not rely on a partially inserted connection.

If any measurement or connector requirement is unclear, pause and check the card, case and PSU manuals rather than inferring compatibility from the GPU name, case category or PSU wattage alone.
