Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSamsung Keyboard does not document a separate switch to hide only the word-suggestion strip while guaranteeing autocorrect stays on. Its Predictive text setting controls word suggestions; Auto replace controls whether typed words are completed or replaced. Turning off Auto replace can stop unwanted substitutions, but Samsung Community moderator guidance says the suggestions remain visible.
If you want to remove the strip, review Predictive text in Samsung Keyboard settings. Samsung’s support instructions do not promise that autocorrect will continue working when Predictive text is disabled, so check the correction options available on your device rather than assuming the two functions can be separated.
Find Samsung Keyboard’s typing settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Open Smart typing, if that section appears.
- Review Predictive text, Auto replace, and any spelling or text-correction switches separately.
You can also open Samsung Keyboard, tap its gear icon, and go to its settings. Menu names and locations vary by device and software version. On some older devices, Samsung lists paths through Language and input, On-screen keyboard, and Samsung Keyboard. If you cannot find the menu, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.” These paths are described in Samsung UK’s keyboard settings guidance; Samsung notes that available options and steps can differ on older devices or operating systems.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to change
| Setting | What it changes | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Predictive text | Word suggestions shown as you type. | This is Samsung’s documented setting for word suggestions. Samsung does not state that disabling it preserves autocorrect. |
| Auto replace | Whether the keyboard completes or replaces a word as you type. | Turn it off if the problem is unwanted substitutions. Samsung Community moderator guidance says the suggestion bar remains visible. |
| Auto spell check | Spelling assistance, such as red underlines and suggested corrections. | This is a spelling feature, not a documented control for hiding the word strip. |
| Suggest text corrections | Grammar and phrase corrections, where available. | Samsung lists this option on its Canada support page; availability varies by device and software. |
Samsung also lists emoji and sticker suggestions separately from word suggestions. Turning those off, if the options are present, is not the same as hiding the word-suggestion strip. See Samsung Canada’s Samsung Keyboard guide for its descriptions of these typing options.

If words are being changed, disable Auto replace
If by “suggestions” you mean that the keyboard inserts a different word, turn off Auto replace in Samsung Keyboard settings. Samsung describes it as a feature that can complete or replace the word being typed with the option it considers most likely in the sentence. This addresses automatic substitutions; it does not hide the suggestion bar. Samsung Community moderator guidance on the distinction is available in the Samsung Community discussion about disabling word suggestions.
If you want the visible word strip gone
Turn off Predictive text and check how your keyboard behaves. That is Samsung’s documented switch for word suggestions, but Samsung’s support guidance does not promise that autocorrect remains active afterward. Look at the spell-check and correction settings still available on your device, and test typing in a message or note before relying on the change. The precise combination of options can vary by model and software version.
