On your Galaxy S25 Ultra, open Smart Switch, choose to receive data, then follow the prompts for your old phone. For an iPhone, Samsung documents a cable transfer or an import from iCloud; for an Android phone, it documents cable and wireless transfers. A cable is optional, and the categories offered can vary by phone and transfer method.
Before you start
- Charge both phones and update the old phone’s software.
- Decide which information matters most, then check the categories Smart Switch offers on the S25 Ultra. Samsung cautions that supported items vary by connected device; do not assume every app’s private data, setting, or account credential will move.
- Keep the old phone and its data intact until you have checked the results on the Galaxy, including contacts, photos, messages, and important app data.
- If switching from iPhone, turn off iMessage and FaceTime to reduce the chance of missing messages on the new phone. Apple provides current steps in its deregistration guide.
The exact Smart Switch screens depend on the phones, software, and method. Use the options shown on your Galaxy as the final check for your particular devices.
Choose a transfer route
| Route | Works from | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Direct cable | iPhone or Android | Connect the phones with a cable or adapter compatible with both ports. The Galaxy prompts determine what can be selected. |
| Wireless Smart Switch | Android, according to Samsung’s documented general method | Use Smart Switch on both phones, keep them close together, and connect them to chargers. No cable purchase is needed. |
| iCloud import | iPhone | Sync iPhone information to iCloud first; then sign in and complete account verification in Smart Switch. Samsung warns that some data may not transfer. |
| QR-started wireless transfer | iPhone or other Android device, if the software requirements and setup option are present | Samsung Philippines lists iOS 26.6 or later and Android 17 / One UI 9.0 or later on Galaxy for this method. Availability is software- and region-dependent. |
Transfer from an iPhone
Option 1: Connect the iPhone by cable
- On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, open Settings > Accounts and backup > Bring data from old device or open Smart Switch, then choose Receive data and iPhone/iPad. Menu wording can vary with software.
- Connect the iPhone and Galaxy using a cable that fits the iPhone’s port and the Galaxy’s USB-C port. Samsung’s US guidance lists a Lightning-to-USB-C cable, or a Lightning-to-USB cable with a USB-OTG adapter for relevant setups. Check your iPhone’s connector and the Galaxy’s on-screen instructions before buying a cable.
- If the iPhone asks whether to trust the connected device, tap Trust and follow any prompts to unlock or authorize it.
- Choose the data categories Smart Switch presents, then start the transfer. Leave both phones connected and follow the progress prompts.
Option 2: Import from iCloud
- On the iPhone, make sure the information you want is synced to iCloud. Samsung advises having a computer available for iTunes or iCloud preparation if needed.
- On the Galaxy, open Smart Switch, choose Receive data, select iPhone/iPad, then choose the iCloud import option.
- Sign in with your Apple account and complete any verification prompt.
- Select the available categories and start the import. The transfer can only include information available through the account and options presented, and Samsung warns that some data may not transfer.
Samsung’s iOS support guidance names contacts, calendars, notes, call history, bookmarks, photos, Live Photos, videos subject to DRM limits, documents, recommended apps, and voice memos among the categories that may be importable from iCloud. This is a list of supported category types, not a guarantee that every item will appear for every account or configuration.
Know what may need separate attention
- Apple apps do not become Android apps through migration. Install Android versions or alternatives from Google Play where available, then sign in again.
- Samsung’s German guidance says Apple Music itself does not transfer, although it can be downloaded again on Android. The same page says Apple Keychain passwords are not transferred through Smart Switch. These are details from that regional guidance; check the current options shown for your devices.
- Video transfer can be limited by digital-rights management (DRM), as noted in Samsung’s iOS category guidance.
Transfer from an Android phone
Wireless transfer
- Open or install Smart Switch on both phones.
- On the old Android phone, choose Send; on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, choose Receive. Select Galaxy/Android as the source and choose Wireless.
- Keep the phones close together and connected to chargers, as Samsung recommends. Follow the pairing prompts.
- Select the categories offered on the phones and start the transfer. Wait for Smart Switch to finish before disconnecting either device.
Cable transfer
- Open Smart Switch on the Galaxy and choose Receive data from a Galaxy/Android device, then select Cable.
- Connect the phones using a compatible cable or adapter and follow the prompts on both devices. If the old phone asks for permission, approve the connection.
- Review the available data categories, select what you want, and start the transfer.
Smart Switch shows the categories supported for the connected phone. App data, settings, and sign-in details may not all be transferable, so plan to reinstall or reconfigure anything that does not appear in the selection list.

What about the newer QR transfer option?
Samsung Philippines describes a QR-started wireless method that does not require installing Smart Switch on the iPhone. Its August 20, 2026 guidance lists iOS 26.6 or later on iPhone and Android 17 / One UI 9.0 or later on Galaxy as prerequisites; Samsung says the same steps can apply from other Android phones. This is not a guaranteed option on every S25 Ultra software build or in every region. If your Galaxy’s setup flow offers the QR method and both phones meet the stated requirements, follow its prompt; otherwise use the cable, wireless, or iCloud route available in Smart Switch.

After the transfer
- Open the Galaxy’s contacts, gallery, messages, and calendar to check that the expected information arrived.
- Sign in to important apps and verify their information separately; a successful Smart Switch transfer does not establish that every app’s private data or credentials moved.
- If you moved from iPhone, confirm iMessage and FaceTime are turned off and check that SMS messages arrive on the Galaxy.
- Do not erase or trade in the old phone until you have confirmed that the information you need is available on the S25 Ultra or backed up elsewhere.
