First find out whether the fault follows the iPad, the Wi-Fi network, or the Bluetooth accessory. Check Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode, test another network or device, then troubleshoot Bluetooth pairing. Save Reset Network Settings for later: it removes saved network details but does not erase your personal content.

Start by identifying what is failing

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth problems can look similar, but test them separately. For Wi-Fi, note whether the iPad cannot join a network or joins it but cannot reach the internet. For Bluetooth, check whether the iPad can find or pair with one accessory or with none.

  • If other devices also cannot get online on the same Wi-Fi, the issue may be with the router, service, or network.
  • If the iPad fails on every Wi-Fi network, the issue is more likely specific to the iPad.
  • If one Bluetooth accessory fails but other accessories connect, investigate that accessory’s power, pairing mode, or compatibility.

These scope checks help avoid resetting the iPad or replacing equipment before you know where the failure occurs. Apple’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance and Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance use the same kind of device-versus-network or accessory isolation.

Fix Wi-Fi connection problems

Check the iPad’s Wi-Fi settings

  1. Open Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure Wi-Fi is on.
  2. Make sure Airplane Mode is off.
  3. Tap the intended network and enter its password if prompted. A checkmark beside the network name indicates the iPad is connected to that Wi-Fi network.
  4. If Wi-Fi is dimmed or unavailable, restart the iPad, then check the setting again.

A checkmark confirms a connection to the local Wi-Fi network; it does not by itself prove that the network has internet access. If the iPad says “No Internet Connection” or apps cannot get online, continue with the network checks below. See Apple’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps.

Check whether the problem is the network or the iPad

  1. Try another device on the same Wi-Fi. If that device also cannot get online, the problem is not limited to the iPad.
  2. Try the iPad on a different Wi-Fi network. If it works there, focus on the original router or network; if it fails everywhere, contact Apple Support.
  3. For a home network, check that the router is powered, the iPad is within range, and the router has current firmware. If the router offers multiple bands, try the other one—for example, switch between 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz.
  4. Restart the router and modem by unplugging them, then reconnecting them. Follow the equipment maker’s guidance for restart timing.

If no devices can get online through the network after these checks, contact your internet service provider. If the issue occurs only on a school or work network, ask its administrator. Apple’s recommendations are to check configuration, range, firmware, and bands—not to replace a router without first isolating the cause. Apple Wi-Fi guidance.

Forget and rejoin a saved network

If the saved network entry or password may be stale, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button beside the network, choose Forget This Network, then select the network again and rejoin with its password. This removes that saved network from the iPad; it is an optional troubleshooting step, not a prerequisite for every Wi-Fi problem. Apple’s iPad User Guide explains network setting changes.

Check VPN or security software

A VPN or third-party security app can interfere with network connectivity. If one is installed, Apple recommends temporarily uninstalling it, restarting the iPad, and testing the connection. If connectivity returns and you need the software, contact its provider or VPN manager before reinstalling it. On a managed iPad, consult your school or workplace administrator before changing managed settings. Apple’s guidance on VPN and third-party security software.

Reset Network Settings only after simpler checks

Use this only if the checks above have not fixed the problem. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings. The reset removes saved network settings, previously used Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN settings that were not installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management. It does not erase personal data or media. If the iPad is managed by a school or business, ask its IT administrator before resetting; profiles and management settings can be affected by separate removal actions. Fix Bluetooth pairing problems

Check accessory power, range, and discovery mode

  1. Keep the iPad and accessory near each other.
  2. Make sure the accessory is powered and charged; replace its batteries if needed.
  3. Turn the accessory off and on, then put it into discovery or pairing mode using the accessory maker’s instructions.
  4. If an app is required to use the accessory, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth and allow Bluetooth access for that app.

Pairing mode and power controls differ by accessory, so use its maker’s instructions if it does not appear. Apple’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance.

Forget the accessory and pair again

For an accessory that was paired before, open Settings > Bluetooth, tap its info or actions button, and choose Forget This Device. Put the accessory back into discovery mode and pair it again. If it connects to another phone, tablet, or computer but not this iPad, unpair it from that device before retrying. Check with the accessory maker that it is compatible with iPad. For some connected accessories, you may need to select them again under My Devices. Apple Bluetooth troubleshooting, Apple instructions for third-party accessories.

For intermittent wireless or audio performance

If Bluetooth connects but performance is intermittent, disconnect Bluetooth accessories you are not using and try moving the iPad or accessory. Apple’s iPad guide also notes that Airplane Mode may eliminate audio interference in some situations. Treat these as targeted performance checks: Airplane Mode is not a general fix for a Bluetooth control that is greyed out. Apple iPad User Guide: Bluetooth accessories.
