It depends which version you mean. For the original Game Boy Advance cartridges, no current official way to add Celebi directly to a FireRed or LeafGreen save is established here. For the Nintendo Switch rereleases, Nintendo has announced a Celebi Mystery Gift in Pokémon HOME after you complete the matching Pokédex there. Nintendo says HOME support starts in October 2026, but has not published the exact launch date or full claim instructions.
Can you catch Celebi in the original FireRed or LeafGreen?
Nintendo has not announced a current distribution that puts Celebi directly into an original GBA FireRed or LeafGreen save. Its Switch rerelease announcement describes a reward delivered to Pokémon HOME; it does not say that Celebi can be caught in either game or transferred back to a GBA cartridge.
Nintendo’s current Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter compatibility list does not include FireRed or LeafGreen as supported source games. That means Bank or Poké Transporter should not be presented as a route for moving a Pokémon into those cartridges. This does not establish that no historical or niche distribution ever existed; it means a current official route for an original save is not verified.
How the Switch rerelease Celebi reward is supposed to work
Nintendo’s U.S. LeafGreen Nintendo Switch product listing says that, starting in October 2026, players can bring Pokémon from the Switch release to Pokémon HOME. It says completing that game’s Pokédex in HOME makes a special Celebi available as a HOME Mystery Gift. The listing gives the same reward wording for FireRed.
#1 Best Overall
- Play the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon FireRed or Pokémon LeafGreen.
- When the announced HOME connectivity becomes available, connect the game to Pokémon HOME. Nintendo currently gives October 2026 as the start window.
- Complete the Pokédex for the corresponding game in Pokémon HOME.
- Claim the special Celebi as a Mystery Gift in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME, as specified in Nintendo’s listing.
These are the announced requirements, not a confirmed live walkthrough. Nintendo has not yet specified the exact rollout day, the precise HOME screens, whether completion means registering every Pokémon as caught, or any additional eligibility conditions. Check Nintendo’s listing for updates before relying on a particular menu path.
Does the HOME Celebi transfer back into FireRed or LeafGreen?
Nintendo’s announcement says the reward is received in Pokémon HOME. It does not document moving that Celebi into the Switch game, and it provides no method for moving it backward into an original GBA save. Do not treat “get Celebi in HOME” as the same thing as “get Celebi in the game.”

Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME transfer instructions also state that Pokémon transferred from Bank to HOME cannot be returned to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles. That one-way transfer policy is relevant to legacy transfers, but it does not create a Celebi route for an original FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge.

Nintendo says Pokémon Bank service is scheduled to end on February 25, 2027. After that date, transfers from Bank to HOME will no longer be possible, according to its Bank end-of-service notice. This deadline concerns Bank-to-HOME transfers; it does not change the Switch reward’s stated delivery location or provide a method to add Celebi to an original cartridge.
