PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchChoose the platform only after checking which versions of the specific RPG are confirmed and when they are expected to arrive. Then compare the systems you already own, where you want to play, the game’s online and save features, edition contents, tested performance, and total local cost. There is no universally best choice across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Start with the game’s confirmed platforms and release timing
Do not assume an upcoming RPG will launch on every system—or on the same date across systems. Check the game’s official announcement and store listing, and distinguish a confirmed platform from an announced release date. Recheck near launch because availability can change.

- Fable: Xbox Wire’s January 22, 2026 announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5 for autumn 2026, and identifies it as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Read the Fable announcement.
- Persona 6: Sega’s September 2026 announcement lists Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PS5, Steam, and Switch 2, but says the release date is undecided. Read Sega’s announcement.
- Elden Ring Tarnished Edition: Bandai Namco announced on August 28, 2026 that it was available on Switch 2; it also said new content could be purchased for Elden Ring on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Availability of the new edition and add-on content is not the same thing, so check which product you intend to buy. Read Bandai Namco’s announcement.
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Square Enix announced Switch 2 and Xbox versions on June 3, 2026, in addition to PS5 and PC availability, and named Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming support. That announcement date has passed; check the current official listing for present availability and regional status rather than treating the versions as still upcoming. Read Square Enix’s announcement.
These examples illustrate different platform combinations and timing; they are not a complete release calendar. Use the publisher’s listing for the RPG you actually plan to play.
Compare the versions that are actually available to you
Once you have confirmed at least two versions, compare like with like. A platform name alone does not establish that editions, performance, online requirements, or save features match.

| Factor | What to check |
|---|---|
| Existing hardware | Can a PC or console you already own run the version you want? Compare the extra cost of using it with the cost of buying another system. |
| Where you play | Do you want a desk or TV setup, or the option to play away from one? Confirm that the RPG supports the relevant system and mode. |
| Performance and controls | For the exact game, look for reliable testing of resolution, frame rate, loading, stability, and controls. Do not infer a winner from hardware labels alone. |
| Online and saves | Check whether online play, cross-play, cross-progression, cloud saves, or a subscription is required, and whether those features apply to the edition and region you will use. |
| Edition contents | Compare what each edition includes and whether an upgrade or add-on is sold separately. |
| Total cost | Add the current local prices for the hardware you need, game edition, any required online service, storage, and accessories. |
No matched performance test, PC requirements, or current prices were established for an unnamed RPG. For PC, use the developer’s minimum and recommended requirements for that game and compare them with your actual hardware; for performance, rely on testing of the specific versions.
Choose by how you want to play
If you already own a suitable PC or console
Start with that system if the RPG is confirmed for it. Compare the incremental cost of playing there with buying another device, then account for version-specific performance, controls, and features. Ownership alone does not establish that your PC meets requirements or that one console version performs better.

If portable play matters
Check for a Switch 2 version and its exact play modes. Nintendo’s RuneScape: Dragonwilds listing documents TV, tabletop, and handheld modes on Switch 2. Those are hardware modes, not a promise that every RPG runs or looks the same in each mode. See Nintendo’s listing.
Be precise about the model: the cited current examples refer to Switch 2, not all Nintendo Switch systems. Nintendo cautions on a separate official listing that Switch Lite compatibility or play experience can differ, so check the exact system and game version before buying. Check Nintendo’s system-specific listing.

If you want flexibility across devices
Look for an explicit statement about cross-buy, cross-progression, or cloud play. Xbox Wire identifies Fable as Xbox Play Anywhere, but that label should not be generalized to every Xbox release or to other platforms. Confirm what the designation means for the game and your account before choosing based on it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check online access and save conditions for the exact RPG
Online access, cloud saves, and ownership conditions vary by game and ecosystem. Nintendo’s RuneScape: Dragonwilds listing associates online play and Save Data Cloud with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. By contrast, Xbox Wire’s January 8, 2026 Towerborne announcement described one specific release as a buy-once offline game with online co-op: “With this full game update, Towerborne shifts from its original vision as a free-to-play, always online title into a buy once, offline game – you will own the complete experience permanently, with offline play and online co-op.” Read the Towerborne announcement.
Towerborne is an example of title-specific conditions, not a general rule for RPGs. Before purchase, check the target game’s official page for any subscription requirement, online-only limitation, save-transfer option, cross-play support, or change to its release model.
Quick Recap
Make the decision with your local prices and priorities
- Write down the platforms and release timing confirmed by the game’s publisher.
- Remove versions unavailable in your region or incompatible with the exact system you own.
- Decide whether portability, a desk or TV setup, existing hardware, or cross-device features matter most to you.
- Check official requirements and feature details, then consult reliable comparisons of the exact versions for performance and controls.
- Compare edition contents and calculate the total using current prices in your region, including any required service or hardware.
- Choose the version that best fits your priorities and budget; if an important detail remains unclear, wait for the official listing or a dependable version comparison.
