To estimate whether an upcoming RPG will run on your PC, compare the game’s current official system requirements with your computer’s operating system, processor, graphics card, memory, storage, and any stated graphics-feature requirements. On Windows, you can find key hardware details with the built-in DxDiag utility. A match is a useful screening check—not a guarantee of smooth performance, a particular frame rate, or trouble-free launch.

Find the game’s current PC requirements

Check the publisher’s official page or the store listing for the PC version. On Steam, open the game’s Store page and find System Requirements. Record the minimum and recommended specifications, including operating system, CPU, graphics card, RAM, storage, and any stated graphics API or feature requirements. Steam explains where to find platform and hardware requirements on its Store page guidance.

Because the game is upcoming, check the listing again close to release. Its requirements may be added or revised, so an older listing or a third-party summary may not reflect the current specification.

Find your PC’s hardware in Windows

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type dxdiag and press Enter. Approve any prompt to check whether drivers are digitally signed, if it appears.
  3. On the System tab, note your Windows version, processor, and memory.
  4. On the Display tab, note the graphics-device name and driver details. If there is more than one display tab, check each one so you identify the GPU the game may use.

Steam’s driver guidance describes the DxDiag System and Display tabs; Rockstar Support also recommends DxDiag for identifying PC hardware when checking compatibility in its compatibility instructions.

Compare each requirement with the matching PC detail

Compare the exact PC configuration with the game’s listed requirements rather than relying on a single overall impression. Check these items:

  • Operating system and architecture: Confirm that your Windows version is supported and that your system meets any 64-bit requirement. Hardware that is powerful enough cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system.
  • Processor: Compare the CPU model with the listed minimum and recommended processor. A similar-sounding product name is not enough to establish an exact match.
  • Graphics card: Compare the actual GPU model, whether integrated or discrete, and check any listed feature or graphics API requirements. Do not use the DirectX version installed in Windows as a substitute for checking the GPU’s capabilities: Steam notes that an installed DirectX version does not prove older graphics hardware supports the shader features a game requires. See its DirectX and Pixel Shader guidance.
  • Memory: Check that installed system RAM meets the stated amount.
  • Storage: Compare the game’s required space with the free space on the drive where you plan to install it. If the listing specifies a storage type, such as an SSD, check that too.
  • Drivers and other constraints: Note any stated driver, graphics API, or other feature requirement, and compare it with the relevant details in DxDiag or the hardware maker’s current support information.

If the publisher lists performance tiers or target settings, compare your PC with the tier that matches how you want to play. The labels “minimum” and “recommended” alone do not establish a universal frame rate.

What minimum and recommended requirements tell you

Minimum specifications are a baseline, not a promise of high settings or strong performance. Epic Games Support says a PC that only meets minimum requirements probably will not run a game at its highest settings; Steam likewise cautions that meeting listed requirements does not by itself guarantee high frame rates or good performance. See Epic’s system-requirements guidance and Steam’s performance troubleshooting guidance.

Recommended specifications are a more useful comparison if your goal is stronger visual quality or performance, but they still do not guarantee a particular frame rate unless the publisher explicitly states a target and the conditions for it.

How to judge a borderline or uncertain match

If your hardware is close to the minimum—or you cannot confidently match a listed requirement—the result is uncertain. Steam warns that a PC at or near a game’s requirements may have performance or launch problems, as described in its launch troubleshooting guidance.
