Start with the tournament’s live leaderboard
A live leaderboard is usually the fastest way to see who is leading and how players are scoring. Check the tournament’s official website or app first: the PGA TOUR app listing describes real-time leaderboards, player scorecards, and live stats. On Apple devices, Apple Sports provides live scores for official PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour events, including majors, with hole-by-hole results and individual scorecards. If you only need to check golf scores on your phone, start with the leaderboard rather than a video stream. A leaderboard avoids the need to keep a broadcast playing and makes it easy to scan the field at a glance.
Follow a player for shot-by-shot context
When a player’s progress matters more than the full field, look for that event’s scorecard, shot trail, or play-by-play feature. The PGA TOUR app describes shot trails and play-by-play. The Open’s ShotView offers shot-by-shot data and statistics, while the PGA Championship app guide describes 3D shot tracking for the field. Get golf score updates without reopening the app
For fewer manual checks, enable notifications for the tournament or the player you follow. The PGA TOUR app supports push notifications for followed tours and players and offers lock-screen Live Activities. The Open’s FAQ says Championship notifications can include scoring, leaders, and radio or video schedules. Apple Sports also supports Live Activities on iPhone and Apple Watch. Notification controls and lock-screen features depend on the app, device, and operating-system settings. Enable the relevant alerts in the app and allow notifications in your device settings; then check the app’s feature description to confirm whether it supports a persistent live update.

Listen to official golf radio or audio
If you want commentary while doing something else, look for an audio or radio link on the tournament’s official site or in its app. Availability is event-specific. The Open’s 2026 guide said The Open Radio would be available globally through its website, app, and R&A TV, as well as on talkSPORT 2 in the UK and SiriusXM across North America. The PGA Championship 2026 spectator guide said its app carried SiriusXM’s PGA Championship Radio without requiring a subscription or authentication. Check availability for your location and device
Do not assume an app feature or stream will work the same way everywhere. The Open FAQ says the live video streams shown in its app can differ by country according to available TV coverage, and recommends enabling Location Services so the app can show the correct streams. It also says Android users are directed to a website shortcut, while the iOS app is built for the App Store. Check the particular tournament’s current page and your device’s app listing before relying on a stream or feature. The Open app FAQ · The Open app
