ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE has a Prologue followed by 30 numbered campaign missions, according to two launch-period guides. Those guides describe the campaign as a fixed sequence, not a choose-your-own-route story. Mission 18 is called “Moonlight and Shadows,” and its operation is named “Branching Path”—that label does not establish that players can select an alternate campaign branch.
How many missions are in Ace Combat 8?
The launch-period mission guides list 31 campaign sorties when the Prologue is counted: the Prologue plus Missions 01–30. The full roster below follows KeenGamer’s list, which TheClick independently reproduces. Bandai Namco’s reviewed official pages do not publish a complete mission roster, so the names and sequence are guide-reported rather than an official publisher checklist. Does Ace Combat 8 have branching missions?
The two guides presenting the full roster show the Prologue and Missions 01–30 in the same fixed order, with no player-selected campaign route. “Branching Path” is the operation name listed for Mission 18, “Moonlight and Shadows”; the operation title alone is not evidence of an alternate branch. The story follows the FCU’s fight to reclaim its capital, Theve, from the Republic of Sotoa, with the carrier Endurance serving as the base of operations, as described in the official game overview.

How to unlock missions and Free Mission mode
The campaign roster is presented as a sequential story, but post-campaign replay access is less certain. KeenGamer says Free Mission unlocks after a campaign clear on any difficulty; PowerPyx says an Elite-difficulty clear is required. The reviewed official materials do not settle the discrepancy, so the precise condition should be checked in the current game’s mode menu rather than treated as confirmed. ACE COMBAT 8 launched worldwide on October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, according to Bandai Namco’s launch announcement. Its campaign includes air-to-air dogfights, air support for ground forces and air-to-sea sorties. The publisher advises using mission briefing intel to choose an approach and matching aircraft, weapons and upgrades to the objective; additional fighter jets can be unlocked with MRP earned in missions. Its official walkthrough also describes wingman attack and cover commands, special weapons and upgrades.
