Start with the developer’s low-risk troubleshooting sequence: lower the graphics preset, update your graphics drivers, close background apps and overlays, verify the game files in Steam, then restart the game or PC if needed. On a laptop, connect the charger, select Windows Best Performance, and make sure Nivalis Nights is using the dedicated GPU. These steps are recommendations, not guaranteed FPS fixes; the developer has not published measured gains for them.
How can I get the best performance?
First note whether the problem is consistently low FPS or brief stutters, where it happens, and whether it follows a long session or fast travel. That helps distinguish a persistent issue from behaviors the developer has acknowledged. Avoid assuming a CPU, GPU, or memory bottleneck without measurements from your own PC.
- Lower the graphics preset. In the game’s graphics settings, reduce Graphics Quality to a lower preset and check whether the problem changes. If needed, adjust individual options afterward.
- Update your graphics driver. Install the current driver for your GPU from its manufacturer, then relaunch the game.
- Close background applications and overlays. Shut down unnecessary programs before playing and see whether the issue persists.
- Verify the Steam installation. In Steam, open Library, right-click Nivalis Nights, choose Properties, select Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the check to finish before launching the game again.
- Restart the game or PC. Try restarting the game first; restart Windows if the problem continues.
For a laptop, connect AC power, set Windows to Best Performance, and confirm Nivalis Nights is assigned to the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. Laptop GPU names are not directly equivalent to desktop performance, so compare against the laptop-specific models in the official system requirements.
Do your PC specifications match the game’s targets?
ION LANDS and 505 Games list the following targets. They are publisher specifications, not a promise that every scene or PC configuration will achieve the stated frame rate. Both configurations require 16 GB RAM and 42 GB of available SSD storage.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
| Publisher target | Resolution and frame rate | Graphics preset | Rendering |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1080p at 30 FPS | Very Low | Native resolution; no upscaling |
| Recommended | 1440p at 60 FPS | High | Native resolution; no upscaling |
Compare your CPU and GPU with the full official requirements, especially if you are targeting 1440p on High. The developer says results vary with drivers, settings, and other running software. An SSD is a listed requirement, but the requirements do not establish that moving the game to an SSD will cure general stuttering or low FPS. Likewise, adding RAM or buying a graphics card is not a proven fix for every symptom.
Could this be a known game-side performance issue?
Stutters or lower FPS in crowded areas
The official developer account says that frame rate can vary in areas with lots of NPCs. If the issue is concentrated in busy locations, this known behavior may be relevant; lowering the graphics preset is still a reasonable first check, but the developer has not quantified how much it may help.

Performance that degrades during a long session
The developer’s Known Issues post suggests restarting after several hours or trying performance power mode. Treat these as suggestions rather than guaranteed remedies.
Performance changes after fast travel
The October 2, 2026 update notes acknowledge that fast travel to some locations can affect performance on some systems. The stated workaround is to save after reaching the destination and reload that save. The update says work on a fix is ongoing, so this behavior should not be considered resolved.

What did the October updates change?
The October 1 and October 2, 2026 update notes describe several performance-related changes, but provide no measured FPS gains:
- October 1, Update #1: Reported performance improvements for character actions, animations, and physics; fixed a camera issue that could make performance gradually worsen each time a save was loaded; and corrected a Level of Detail slider issue that could cause visual artifacts at zero.
- October 2, Update #2: Reduced bone weights on lower-LOD character models and added a Lighting Details slider that limits active lights by distance. Lowering the slider deactivates lights based on distance; the notes do not state a frame-rate improvement.
These changes may be relevant to particular conditions, but the notes do not guarantee a specific result on an individual PC.

Does Nivalis Nights support DLSS or FSR?
The official FAQ says the game currently has no DLSS, FSR, or other upscaling support. It explains that future support was being evaluated, without giving a promised release date. The published performance targets are therefore stated at native resolution, with no upscaling.

Would GeForce NOW help?
The developer confirms Nivalis Nights is available through GeForce NOW. It is an alternative to consider if local PC performance is inadequate, but check current access and service terms for your location. Cloud play does not guarantee a particular frame rate or latency.
