Start by identifying which failure you have: a crash or black screen during launch, a missing ReShade menu, or effects distorting the HUD. Those symptoms have different causes. Check the game executable and graphics API, temporarily disable other overlays, and—if necessary—uninstall ReShade to establish whether the game works without it. ReShade version 6.8.0 was released August 2, 2026; compatibility and anti-cheat rules still depend on the specific game and setup.
Identify the symptom before changing files
Note the game and build, ReShade version, selected graphics API, overlay or monitoring tools in use, and what changed just before the problem began. Then classify the failure:
- Crash on startup: the game closes or reports an error before reaching its menu.
- Black or blank screen: the game appears to launch, but its display is black or incomplete.
- ReShade overlay doesn’t appear: the game runs, but ReShade’s own menu is missing.
- Shaders are messing with the HUD: the game and effects run, but effects blur, tint, or otherwise alter interface elements.
There is no single established cause or universal fix for all four symptoms. Use the checks below in order, testing the game after each change so you can identify what matters.
Check that ReShade targets the right game and API
ReShade must be installed for the actual game executable and the renderer the game is using. Its troubleshooting guide warns that automatic graphics API detection can be wrong, so verify both rather than assuming the installer chose correctly: ReShade’s troubleshooting guide.

ReShade’s official homepage lists Direct3D 9, 10, 11, and 12, OpenGL, and Vulkan support. That list does not guarantee compatibility with every game, build, launcher, or configuration: ReShade. If you are unsure which renderer the game uses, check its own graphics settings or support documentation before changing API-specific files.
Isolate other overlays and check the ReShade version
Temporarily turn off other overlays or monitoring tools, then launch the game again. ReShade’s troubleshooting materials name MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, and Steam or other overlays as possible sources of conflicts; they do not establish that any one of these causes a particular crash. Test with the tools disabled, then turn them back on one at a time to see whether a problem reliably returns. See the ReShade troubleshooting guide and common issues and solutions.
Check that you are using a current ReShade release. The official homepage lists version 6.8.0, released August 2, 2026: ReShade. Updating is a diagnostic step, not a guarantee that a game-specific issue will be resolved.

For DirectX 11 only, treat the DLL rename as a reversible test
ReShade’s troubleshooting guide suggests trying a DXGI-to-D3D11 filename change for DirectX 11 games. This is an API-specific experiment, not a general fix for Vulkan, OpenGL, Direct3D 9, 10, or 12, and it is not guaranteed to help.

- Confirm that the game is using DirectX 11 and locate the ReShade-related DXGI file in the game directory.
- Preserve the original filename so you can undo the change, then try the guide’s suggested rename to D3D11.
- Launch the game and check whether the original symptom changes. If it does not help or makes matters worse, restore the original filename.
Do not rename arbitrary game files. The procedure and its DirectX 11 qualification come from ReShade’s troubleshooting guide.
Check the game’s anti-cheat policy before using an injector online
Some anti-cheat systems may treat an injector as untrusted, according to ReShade’s troubleshooting guide. Whether use is permitted depends on the specific game and its current rules. Before launching an online game with ReShade installed, check that game’s current policy and support information. Do not assume that a general statement about ReShade establishes compatibility or permission for your game: ReShade’s troubleshooting guide.

Remove ReShade to test a clean baseline
If the crash, black screen, or missing-menu problem remains, uninstall ReShade for that game and test the unmodified launch. The setup tool has an uninstall flow. If removing it manually, use the guide’s instructions to remove the ReShade configuration files, the relevant API-specific injector DLL, and the reshade-shaders folder from the game directory. Do not delete unrelated or unidentified game DLLs. The manual-removal guidance is in ReShade’s troubleshooting guide.
If the game works after removal, that narrows the issue to the injected setup or an interaction it creates; it does not by itself identify which file, effect, API choice, or other program was responsible. Reinstall only after checking the game’s API and online policy, and change one factor at a time.
If only the HUD is distorted, troubleshoot the effect
A HUD artifact is different from a launch failure or a missing ReShade menu. Post-processing can act on the completed image, which may include interface elements as well as the game scene. ReShade’s troubleshooting guide discusses UI masks and image-detection techniques as ways to limit effects, but says there is no definitive fix that works universally: ReShade’s troubleshooting guide.
For this symptom, focus on the effect and its configuration rather than changing launch files. Disable or adjust the problematic effect, and use a UI mask or image-detection approach only if the relevant effect supports it. If you cannot separate the HUD from the scene with the available effect controls, disabling that effect may be the practical option.
