If a cryptocurrency deposit or withdrawal is missing after an exchange incident, first check the exchange’s status page and the transfer’s account record, then trace the transaction ID (TxID) on the relevant blockchain. The next step depends on whether the exchange is still processing it, the blockchain has not confirmed it, or the receiving platform has not credited a confirmed transfer. An incident may affect funding operations, but it does not by itself explain what happened to a specific transaction.
Start with the exchange status page and transaction history
- Open the exchange’s official status page directly. Look for notices about deposits, withdrawals, wallets, or the exact network you used. Status information changes, so check the current notice rather than relying on an old outage report.
- Find the exact transfer in your account’s transaction or funding history. Record its displayed status and any TxID. A maintenance notice can explain a delay, but the transaction record is needed to diagnose your transfer.
Kraken’s funding guidance recommends checking its status page for delays or technical problems and checking for maintenance when a deposit is missing: Kraken: Why isn’t my deposit showing? Exchange status labels and procedures differ, so use the affected platform’s own help pages.
Trace a withdrawal with its TxID
Open the withdrawal record and use its TxID to view the transaction on an explorer for the network actually used. The TxID helps distinguish exchange processing from the blockchain transfer and the receiving platform’s crediting process. Binance explains that a TxID indicates a withdrawal was broadcast; confirmation and destination crediting may still take additional time: Binance: Why hasn’t my withdrawal arrived?
- No TxID: The exchange may not have broadcast the transaction yet. Contact the sending exchange if its stated processing window has passed, and include the withdrawal record.
- Unconfirmed: The transaction is on the network but has not yet met the relevant confirmation requirement. Requirements vary by network and receiving platform; congestion can also delay confirmation.
- Failed or replaced: Contact the platform where the withdrawal began. Binance directs users to the sender for an unsuccessful transaction: Binance: How to check the status of a withdrawal.
- Confirmed: If the destination account still does not show the funds, contact the receiving exchange or wallet. A confirmed blockchain transaction does not prove the recipient has credited the account.
Do not apply a universal confirmation count or wait time: the required threshold and processing time depend on the specific network and destination platform.

If a deposit is missing, verify the destination requirements
Check the receiving platform’s deposit instructions for the exact asset and network. A token sent over an unsupported network, to the wrong address, or without a required memo or tag may not be credited automatically.
- Confirm the platform supports both the asset and the exact network used.
- Verify the destination address and, where applicable, the required memo or tag.
- Check that the amount meets the platform’s minimum deposit requirement.
- Compare the blockchain confirmation status with the platform’s stated confirmation threshold.
- Check whether the deposit is held, under review, or affected by maintenance.
Kraken’s guide also identifies these checks and distinguishes its own statuses: Pending/Processing means the deposit is confirming; Credited means it is available for trading but may not yet be withdrawable; Successful means it is available for trading and withdrawal; and On hold means manual support review. Contact the platform responsible for the stage that is stuck

Prepare a clear support packet
Include the asset and amount, sending and receiving platforms, network, TxID, sending and destination addresses, any memo or tag, transaction date and time with time zone, and the current statuses shown by the exchange and explorer. Briefly describe the incident window and attach relevant screenshots or prior correspondence if requested. Kraken’s recovery guidance asks for transaction details including the TxID, cryptocurrency and amount, deposit address, and transaction date and time: Kraken: Cryptocurrency deposit recovery.

Never provide a password, seed phrase, or private key to support. Those credentials are not needed to identify a transaction.
Understand what can—and cannot—be recovered
Once a withdrawal has been successfully sent on-chain, the sending exchange generally cannot reverse it. Kraken states that it cannot reverse a withdrawal successfully sent to the blockchain: Kraken: Cryptocurrency withdrawal delays.

A misplaced deposit may sometimes be recoverable, but recovery depends on technical constraints and is not guaranteed. The receiving platform must be able to access or identify the funds, and the remedy and timing depend on the transfer and its current policies. Kraken notes that recovery times can vary: Kraken: Cryptocurrency deposit recovery. Do not assume that a wrong network, unsupported token, incorrect address, or omitted memo can be fixed.

As a historical example, Coinbase’s June 1, 2026 postmortem reported that an incident on May 7, 2026, left trading, deposits, withdrawals, and most customer-facing services unavailable or degraded for roughly eight hours; full recovery of all systems took another twelve hours.
