What changes from GTA 5 to GTA 6?
GTA V centers on Los Santos and its surrounding area, while GTA VI moves the story to the fictional state of Leonida and modern-day Vice City. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page introduces Jason and Lucia, who are pulled into a criminal conspiracy across the state after an easy score goes wrong. The synopsis says they have “always known the deck is stacked against them” and are “forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

That establishes a new location and central duo, not a full account of how the game plays. The available official information does not establish whether movement, driving, combat, mission structure, map traversal, character switching, or online play works differently from GTA V. Trailer scenes can show what Rockstar chose to depict, but they do not confirm every mechanic or how features will behave in the finished game.
Is GTA 6 set in Vice City?
Yes. GTA VI is set in Leonida, which includes a modern-day Vice City. Rockstar presents the city as part of a wider state setting, so the announced scope is not limited to Vice City alone. The story follows Jason and Lucia as events draw them into a conspiracy across Leonida.

What platforms will GTA 6 be on, and when does it release?
As listed on Rockstar’s landing page as of October 3, 2026, GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The listing does not announce a PC version. Release plans can change, so check Rockstar’s current page close to launch rather than assuming this date or platform list is permanent.
Is GTA 6 a disc or a download code?
Rockstar Customer Support says the announced physical version is a code-in-box package, not a disc. Its article, “Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions,” last updated August 18, 2026, states: “The physical version of GTAVI will contain a download code that can be used for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box.” If you want a game disc, do not treat the physical retail box as a disc copy.

Rockstar says preload for physical preorder codes begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. Codes may be restricted by platform-account region; Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as the account used on PlayStation or Xbox. Check the live Rockstar Support article for the instructions that apply to your country and platform before purchasing or redeeming a code.
Which GTA 6 edition should returning players choose?
Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions. The Ultimate Edition includes an upgrade collection of in-game items, and owners of Standard can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefronts, according to Rockstar’s support article. The announced distinction is the added in-game items; the available details do not establish a different story or gameplay campaign for Ultimate.

For a player deciding between them, the practical question is whether the listed upgrade items are worth the added cost. If you are uncertain, Rockstar says Standard owners can obtain the upgrade separately, so choosing Standard does not rule out upgrading later.
What has Rockstar announced beyond the story?
Rockstar’s GTA VI page describes an album with 34 original tracks. That confirms an announced music component, but the page does not establish whether the album will be sold on physical media. It is separate from the game’s edition and package-format details.
