To reduce lag in Modern Warfare 4, first check whether your platform’s online service is having problems, then test your home connection. If you play on PC, check rendering and display settings separately: packet loss and input delay can feel similar, but they have different causes. None of these steps is a guaranteed fix.
First, work out what kind of lag you are experiencing
Sluggish controls do not, on their own, prove that you have packet loss. Network instability and rendering or display delay are separate possibilities: network trouble can affect online play while menus and local controls remain responsive, whereas rendering delay is affected by how frames are delivered to your display.
Before changing settings, note whether the problem is steady or intermittent, whether it occurs only in Modern Warfare 4 or during other online activity too, your platform, whether you use Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and when the issue occurs. These details can help distinguish a local connection problem from a game-specific or system-specific one.
Check service status and household network use
Before changing your setup, check the platform network-status links on Activision’s Online Services page. If a platform service is experiencing an issue, local changes may not address it.

- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
Pause or limit bandwidth-heavy applications on your home network, then test the game again. Activision includes limiting bandwidth-heavy applications among its general connection tips, alongside restarting the router, trying a wired connection, and checking connection speed. These are useful diagnostic steps, not guaranteed cures. A speed test alone does not establish that the route to a game server is stable.
Test your local connection
- Restart your router. Retest Modern Warfare 4 after the connection comes back online.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if you currently use Wi-Fi. Use the same device and, as far as practical, similar time and household-load conditions. Activision’s connection tips say, “Try using a wired connection.” A wired test can help isolate a wireless problem, but it cannot repair an issue with your ISP route or a game service. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one option for making this test; it is an accessory, not a guaranteed fix or an Activision endorsement.
- Check your connection speed. Treat the result as one diagnostic detail, not proof that your route to the game is stable.
Activision’s general connection guidance covers these steps, but it does not provide a Modern Warfare 4-specific packet-loss diagnostic flow.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
On PC, test rendering latency separately
Independent PC guides suggest testing graphics and latency options such as V-Sync, NVIDIA Reflex, frame caps, Frame Generation, Fullscreen Exclusive, and shader preloading. These are suggestions to compare, not official Activision settings or controlled benchmark results. Options and their effects can vary with the game version, GPU, display, and system.
- Try V-Sync off and, if the option is available, NVIDIA Reflex enabled.
- Test a frame cap that suits your display’s refresh rate and your system’s performance.
- Compare with Frame Generation off; the recommendation to test this comes from an independent guide, not an Activision guarantee.
- Another independent guide suggests trying Fullscreen Exclusive and shader preloading.
Change one option at a time and compare under similar conditions so you can tell which change, if any, affects the feel of the controls. These PC graphics suggestions are not relevant instructions for console players, and they do not diagnose packet loss.

If the issue continues and you can reproduce it, use the Modern Warfare 4 bug-report route. Activision’s feedback and bug-reporting guidance, dated 2026-08-20, says: “A helpful bug report includes what happened, where and when it happened, and steps to reproduce what you experienced.” Add your platform, whether you were on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether platform services appeared online; this gives useful context alongside the requested details.
