Submit a comment to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) by email or postal mail. First check the specific proposal for its identifier and deadline; include that identifier in your submission. The PCAOB says comments are made public and posted on its website.

Check the proposal and its deadline

Start at the PCAOB’s Open for Public Comment page and open the page for the proposal you want to address. Note its docket number or, where applicable, the Board release or staff consultation paper number and title. The PCAOB uses that reference to associate your comment with the right matter.

Check the proposal page for the current comment deadline rather than relying on a date from another matter or an older announcement. When the PCAOB’s general page was checked for this article, it reported no rulemakings or other Board releases open for public comment; availability and deadlines can change, so check the page and the specific proposal again before sending anything.

Choose how to submit

Route How to send it Where to put the proposal reference
Email Use the current address linked from the PCAOB’s Open for Public Comment page. Put the comment in the email body or attach a Microsoft Word document or Adobe PDF. In the subject line.
Postal mail Address the letter to PCAOB, Attention: Office of the Secretary, 1666 K Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-2803. In a reference line at the beginning of the comment.

The PCAOB’s general instructions do not prescribe a required argument structure or a mandatory template. Make the proposal you are addressing clear and organize your points so they are easy to follow; those are practical writing suggestions, not formal submission requirements. The instructions do not state a special postal format or guarantee delivery timing.

Understand what becomes public

The PCAOB states: “All comments are made public and posted on the PCAOB website.” Providing your name and professional affiliation is encouraged, but not required. Consider what personal or professional information you include in the comment in light of the public posting.

Social-media posts and discussion are not official comments. For organized mass-comment campaigns, multiple people may sign a comment. If the PCAOB receives identical or nearly identical comments, it posts one representative sample and a running total.

Use the matter page to check status and read comments

A proposal’s docket page can help you track the matter and review other submissions. For example, the PCAOB’s Docket 057 page is labeled “Adopted, Pending SEC Action” and lists comment letters. That example is not an open invitation to comment: check the status and deadline for the matter you have in mind.

Do not reuse an expired deadline

Deadlines are specific to each request. As one dated example, a PCAOB announcement on July 20, 2026, about draft strategic-plan goals requested comments by September 4, 2026, with reference to PCAOB No. 2026-006. That deadline has passed; it is not a current general deadline for PCAOB comments.
