Kindle Bluetooth settings pair supported audio devices for uses such as VoiceView and audiobooks; they do not support pairing a typical Bluetooth page-turner that sends key presses. For hands-free reading, you can use VoiceView’s built-in page navigation or consider a model-compatible third-party screen-sensor clip operated by its own remote. These are different setups: the clip does not pair with the Kindle over Bluetooth.
What Kindle Bluetooth can—and cannot—do
On supported Kindle e-readers, Bluetooth is for compatible audio devices. Amazon’s pairing instructions do not support Bluetooth phones, keyboards, or mice, so a standard Bluetooth clicker should not be expected to turn Kindle pages. Amazon says Kindle devices released in 2016 or later support Bluetooth connectivity; feature availability can still vary by model.
To pair an audio device, put it in pairing mode and keep it near the Kindle, then follow this path:
- Open Quick Actions or the Menu icon, then choose All Settings or Settings.
- Choose Wi-Fi & Bluetooth or Wireless, depending on the Kindle, and turn Bluetooth on.
- Open Bluetooth Devices to scan, select the audio device, and choose Connect.
- If prompted for a PIN, select CONFIRM, then YES.

If Bluetooth pairing fails
- Temporarily turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices and accessories.
- Check that the audio device can connect to another device.
- Update the Kindle software, then restart both devices.
- If necessary, Amazon lists factory-resetting the Kindle and Bluetooth device as a further troubleshooting step. A reset is disruptive, so consider it only after the less drastic checks.
These are troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that every audio device will work.
Use VoiceView to hear and navigate a book
VoiceView is Kindle’s screen reader on supported e-readers. It reads content through a compatible Bluetooth audio device and can turn pages automatically as it reads. Amazon’s VoiceView gesture guide lists English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish; check support for your particular Kindle and locale.

VoiceView page-turning gestures
- Swipe left with two fingers to go to the next page.
- Swipe right with two fingers to go to the previous page.
- Tap with two fingers to pause VoiceView while reading, and repeat the gesture to resume.
- If reading stops, swipe down and right with one finger in an L shape to start continuous reading again.
Connect or reconnect an audio device with the shortcut
Amazon documents a shortcut for supported VoiceView setups: press the Kindle power button three times to search for a Bluetooth audio device, then hold two fingers on the screen to select it. The same triple press can reconnect a previously paired device after VoiceView has been turned off or the Kindle has been in Airplane mode. This connects an audio device for VoiceView; it does not make a Bluetooth clicker a supported page-turner.
Change reading and accessibility settings in the Kindle phone app
Kindle app controls are separate from e-reader Bluetooth and VoiceView menus. To open a book’s reading options, tap near the top center of the screen, open the Aa menu, and choose the relevant tab. Depending on the platform and book, settings may include font size and type, line and word spacing, brightness, page color, dark mode, continuous scrolling, margins, alignment, themes, Assistive Reader, real-time text highlighting, and Reading Ruler. Word Wise is available on Android. Not every option appears on every platform or in every book. Amazon lists these controls in its Kindle app accessibility and reading-settings help.

Screen readers on iPhone and Android
The Kindle iOS app uses Apple VoiceOver, which you enable in the iPhone or iPad’s Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver. With VoiceOver active, Amazon lists a three-finger swipe left or right to move to the next or previous page. See Amazon’s VoiceOver guidance for Kindle on iOS.
On Android, Kindle supports Google TalkBack, which you enable in the device’s Accessibility settings. These are phone or tablet screen-reader controls, not Kindle e-reader VoiceView settings.

Hands-free page-turning with a separate remote and screen clip
If you want to turn pages remotely without swiping, a third-party accessory design uses a screen-contact sensor clip and a separate RF remote. The clip interacts with the display; the remote operates the clip. It is not a Bluetooth input device paired with the Kindle.
A manufacturer manual for one such design explicitly says its product has no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and does not connect to the Kindle through Bluetooth. Amazon staff likewise answered a 2022 Kindle Paperwhite question about a built-in remote feature with “No, this is not an available feature,” while separately mentioning a third-party clip-on device. That reply addresses a Kindle feature, not every accessory-based method.

The manual describes pairing the remote with the clip, positioning the clip on a suitable part of the Kindle screen, then using the remote to turn a page. It also gives product-specific cautions, including model incompatibilities, proper screen contact, and automatic shutdown after 30 minutes without use. Check before buying or attaching a clip
- Confirm your exact Kindle model appears on the accessory’s compatibility list.
- Check where the sensor must contact the display and whether the clip could cover text or on-screen controls.
- Review how the remote and clip pair, their charging needs, and any inactivity behavior in that product’s instructions.
- Consider whether VoiceView’s automatic reading and two-finger gestures meet your needs without an extra accessory.
Compatibility is product- and model-specific; an accessory manual is not a universal guarantee or endorsement of a current listing.
